Earth loop from DVD player? by Paul D.Smith
Apologies if this is the wrong group - please redirect me. I have a Pacific (Asda cheapie) DVD player connected via SCART to my old Sony TV. It seems that I have a mains loop set up because I'm getting that nasty humming on audio. This doesn't seem to be specific to the particular cable or DVD player since I've experienced this before from another DVD player. So, any suggestions for tackling...

I tried, it almost works, but not quite by DougB
I have a Sony MiniDV, and it works... sort of. I need help tho. When I plug my TiVo in, and then run out from Camera to PC (via USB2.0) Moviemaker can see and record the stream. But Moviemaker doesn't do DVD, I don't think. Just vcd. If I try to use other programs (WinDV, I think, and Sonic that came with the Dell) and try to capture, it doesn't recognize any video source.

Sony DVW-A500 line blanking by Richard Feather
Hi. I'm trying to find out how to change the blanking on video line 20 in a DVW-A500 digital betacam VTR. I know how to do it on a BVW-75, on the TBC9 board, but can't find any reference in either the operation or maintenance manual on the A500. Any ideas about where to find this info would be appreciated. Thanks. Rich Feather/Ventana Productions

WA and Telephoto lenses for VX1000 - which? by Richard C. Ferryman
The bayonet and 52 mm range of lenses for the VX1000 seem to have been removed from most (uk) stock lists. I see Keene do Kenko and Hama 52 and 58 mm lenses but have always been wary of those brand names as being cheap and cheerful. I may be wrong. The alternative is Sony or Canon but in 58mm with step down ring and at a much higher cost that the older 52mm offerings. Century Optics are over my...

Compressing software by Dmitri Shvetsov
Hi All, What is the best editing and compressing software now? I downloaded from my camera a DV stream as AVI file, about 13.5 GBytes for one hour, 720x480x30. The Movie Maker from Microsoft built in the WinXP-Pro can read this stream, but, very often if can't turn on the sound when it shows the parts. Sometimes it dies by some internal error in the middle of job.

Pinnacle Studio 7 / Sony PC110 problem by reinstall by Thomas Hardy
Greetings. I recently had to reformat my hard drive and install everything from scratch due to deteriorating PC performance. Everything works fine apart from my video editing. I installed Pinnacle Studio 7 and the IEEE card that came with it and received no errors during installation; the card appears fine when I look at it through the System settings.

Standalone DVD recorder by NastyNiff
I'm after a standalone dvd recorder and have narrowed the choices down to 2. They are the Pioneer DVR 3100 and the Toshiba DR1. Prices are similar at £280 but the Pioneer has a firewire port. I have a Canon MV500i and plan on using this feature to transfer tapes to dvd. I also notice that the Tosh has a DV input. Would this do the same job as the firewire on the Pioneer?

JVC GRD70EK Problems by Stuart Walker
I had decided to purchase the above mentioned model of JVC camera when I read one report that mentioned about it's 'infamous' tape chewing problems. The reviewer wrote that 'they had experienced the problem as was often mentioned in the forums'. I have scoured the forums i know of but have never seen this problem mentioned. Is it a problem for this model or just a bunch of sour grapes??? RGB...

Motor noise - JVC GR-D33 by Alush
I bought new JVC camcorder (GR-D33) two weeks ago. I noticed that a motor noise (it sound like a metal TIK..TIK..TIK ) is recorded when recording in quiet rooms. Does someone have the same problem? Is it normal for this model? Thanks.

PAL60 / NTSC? by Graham Nichols
When a modern UK TV says that it can handle an NTSC signal, does it really mean a pure US NTSC signal or is it actually a PAL60 output from, say, a VCR?
