Video editing in Linux? by J.O. Aho
SjT wrote: Why would they have to do that? If you do select a binary based linux distro, you do never have to compile any program at all, even less the kernel. LED lights for filmmaking by Clive Mitchell
In message , Don Klipstein writes As for LEDs of other colors: One manufacturer makes red ones that achieve about 25 and orange ones that achieve about 20%%, otherwise 20% for red and 10-15% for other colors is really good. The reds wouldn't be Hewlett Packard would they? I've got some LEDs that claim to have HP red dice in them...

Capturing video using different camera by Andy Turner
Someone's done some filming for me and I'd like the raw footage from them. Rather than having to borrow his digicam, can I borrow the tape and capture it via firewire on my own digicam, despite it being a totally different model? Do they share the same on-tape format to make this possible? andyt

Progressive scan by Just D.
All, Especially those who have camcorders able to make movies in progressive scan mode. A simple question - do you always shoot in this mode to get advantages from your camcorder or sometimes you have to make movies in interlaced mode? What's the difference, purposes etc.? Afaik, not all devices are supporting this mode yet. So if you're going to watch this movie on PC it's fine, but if you...

Vegas 5 MPEG-1,2 codecs by Just D.
Tony, Since Sony support gave me a strange information about registration maybe you can answer one question. I see in the documentation that Vegas 5 can be installed on up to 3 computers with one serial number. It's ok. Then support wrote me a message that MPEG1-2 codes are built-in in the software but when I start Vegas 5 first time these codecs should require a separate registration. Does...

MPEG2 converter by Just D.
Tony, I got a question for you. I got the answer from Sony support, they wrote that the demo/trial versions are not having any MPEG2/AC-3 codecs and the files that I got were made using another codec installed in my system before I installed Vegas Movie Studio 4. Very funny. I found a way to save the prerendered file that the movie studio creates just to evaluate the quality, it was easy....

Tony, You know probably we should discuss with Sony in private about paying you for the information that you're providing in this newsgroup about their product...) That's a very significant help and I hope not only for me. Dmitri.

Even better savings by Clayson111160
I've found a brilliant method of getting the best price and getting the best cashback - and it's foolproof. You first of all have to register with www.rpoints.com/register (it's my fave site and they give you £5 just for joining if you are a new member). Look around all the rpoints partners and you can buy anything and get the best price and rpoints will give you cashback. But THAT'S NOT ALL!!

Another Question by Simon
I am considering getting the Lite-On LVW5005 DVD Writer. http://makeashorterlink.com/?A2C631499 (Argos number 533/4070) Now, I am not very technical so bear with me. I have a Sony TRV19E camcorder with a DV socket on it. Is it possible to hook this up to the Liteon and play on the cam and rec on the DVD to a disc? Also I don't have the relevant DV lead, where are these available from? Thanks...

Panasonic NV-GS15 by Clint Sharp
HI all, I've just been reading a few pages on the 'net and found that certain versions of the NV-GS15 have A-D pass through, notably the version available in the Arab Emirates and I think the Australian version list it on the spec sheets, there's no mention of this feature in my manual and the A/V socket on the machine is definitely marked 'Out'. The Question; Does anyone know if there are...

Video To DVD Conversion by Si
Hi all we just got wed in Las Vegas in a very reputable wedding chapel. They gave us a video of the ceremony for us to keep on VHS. However, when we play it back all we get is lots of black lines. We can hear the soundtrack but it is so slow the Elvis impersonator sounds like a deep version of Barry White! Both our TV's and VCR's are compatible with PAL & NTSC, but we cant figure
