Scene Analyser by Olympiad
Hi, A while ago on here (possibly over a year, maybe even two) someone recommended a tool that would analyse and split a DV file into scenes based on either timecode and /or frame content. Anyone any recollection of what this was or even some suggestions for alternative tools (ideally cheap or shareware)? As background, I'm currently having a play around with quite a few trial

Black and white video to composite input? by D.M. Procida
A client has Miglia Director's Cut Take 2 - which can't take black and white video (from a CCTV). There's an adaptor available from Miglia, which I guess just converts the signal to composite or something similar, but is there something else they could use that they could get their hands on in a hurry (e.g. from Maplin)? I don't even know what the official name for these things is. Daniele --...

Advice with SP2 by Bob Edwards
I have just purchased an additional 160G ATA internal hard drive for capturing AV files onto. I was told by the nice man in PC World that I would need SP2 (I don't have SP1 installed) in order for my PC to operate the new drive. He did give me an SP2 CD but I have read a few horror stories about SP2 so I was wondering - was he right? Do I need it? Thanks in anticipation Bob ---

Wanted - Hat with 5 mics! by John Russell
Sony have just announced new DVD camcorders that support dolby digital 5.1 surround sound recording. Let's be honest, camcorders have enough problem seperating Stereo with the inbuilt mics, how do they propose to record 5.1?

Sony widescreen camcorders by John Russell
Sony have had a few press releases about their new 2005 camcorders, a few of which have "true widescreen". I wonder does that mean last years HC40 dosn't "truly" have widescreen? I would like to get a 16:9 camcorder and expect last years HC40 to come down in price after the release of the HC39e and HC42e, but whats' the point if the HC40 isn't "truly" widescreen?

LCDs in Bright Sunlight by Tony Morgan
Those who prefer to use the LCD instead of the eye-viewfinder in bright sunlight conditions might have experienced difficulty in seeing what is being shot. SRB offer a viewfinder hood for about £15 for those with (up to) 2.5" LCDs. They also offer viewfinder hoods with (removable) magnifier at about twice the price for those with tired eyes. They also sell a whole range of filters at about...

JVC GRD23 or better by snip
Hi, I am new to digital camcorders and am looking for a camera that works in low light, does a 16:9 mode acceptably and doesn't cost too much.... Any views on the JVC GRD23 (£210 at amazon) or is there a better choice? Also, does anyone know whether a camcorder would take power from the firewire cable (long shot this one....).

TMPGEnc by Geoff Lane
I've had an initail attempt at converting AVI movie files (Produced by my Fuji FinePix camera) using TMPGEnc as recommended by someone within a thread on this forum. At the moment it will accept the AVI files as an AUDIO file but states it cannot open or format not supported when I select the same file as a Video Format. Are there any forums that deal with this particular program.

Editing DVD? by Chris R
I am a little new to the editing side of video so this may be a silly query. I recently had my fathers old standard 8 films transferred to dvd. What is the best way to transfer the dvd data to a home video editor? I assume that the format would be avi or mpeg2 but do not know which is preferable? I have tried some freeware ripping programs but so far they seem a little flaky. The commercial...
