Best practice? by Scott Jones
Is it recommended to remove the tape and battery from a camcorder when it is not being used for a few days? I can find no reference to this in the manual of a recently purchased Panasonic camcorder. Scott Jones

New Sony Top-End Model by Tony Morgan
I've just been told about a new Sony camcorder, the DCR-TVR50, selling at about £1000 (no doubt that will come down). It's being promoted as being a replacement for the TRV30 (which I've had for about three years) - they stopped the TRV30 production when the TRV60 and TRV80 hit the streets a couple of years ago. Looks like they've ditched the bloody awful touch screen and gone back to the...

LCD Screen Protectors? by Tony Morgan
A while ago I saw some LCD screen protectors for sale, but I can't recall where. Anyone know where you can get these. They are small sheets of low-tack clear plastic, designed to protect touch-screens (especially if a stylus is used). -- Tony Morgan http://www.camcord.info

vga capture by bob
hi, does anyone have any experience of capturing the video output from a PC (from the 15pin D-sub port - i.e. monitor output)? I'm in need of a device that will allow me to capture this video as progressive scan / edit it / and then export as progressive uncompressed ..AVI (all at 60Hz 29.97fps). The resolution of the video source is less than 640x480. I was thinking of Avid Xpress Pro HD (with...

Best Codec for Low Motion video. by Steve Franklin
Hi there. I have a bunch of DVD training that I would like to recode so that I can put it on the HD to reference far more quickly than popping DVD's in and out. As most of the DVD training is a (more or less) static computer screenshot with a voice over I thought it would lend itself to a high compression with temporal codec very well. Can anyone recommend a codec for this purpose or have...

Is it worth buying from the US? by Adam Lipscombe
Folks, The prices of cameras seems much cheaper in the US. I am thinking of a panasonic gs120. I have a sister in the US who would be happy to have it deleivered ot het, and then forward it on to me as a "gift". I am trying to think of the pitfalls - so far the power supply and (possibly?) guarantee comne to mind.

HDTV by Just D.
Does anybody shoot for HDTV? Are you using a special DV tape or anything else except camcorder itself? How large is the one-hour AVI file received from this tape comparing to 14 gbytes from usual DV? What camcorders are you using? I'm just wondering...) Dmitri.

Power to the People by MikeD
"john-locke" wrote in message ... More to the point, why should WE labour under some crude false illusion that we are some bastion of a Western Liberal Democracy which allows the masses to elect a new government every few years. There's a simple answer. Make voting compulsory and include a "none of the above" option. The...

Recording from Freeview by Mike Saunders
I want to record/replay Freeview TV but also keep/edit a small no of these recordings (+ some old VHS tapes ) before making up new DVD's for playing on the TV. At present I have no equipment to any of this but think it would be best to use my PC for the editing phase Ideally I would like to record using a HDD in a freeview box and then connect this to the PC directly for the feed but is this...

Tripods and tele / wide-angle adapters by Wally
I've just bought my first camcorder (on eBay). It's a Panasonic NV-GS5B, which looks to have the sort of features I'm after (in the main, PAL, DV-in, mic-in, various manual overrides). It should arrive next week. What are folks' opnions on this unit? A mate has the GS3, and that seems pretty good to my newbie's eye - enough to influence my decision in going for the GS5. (I paid 180 quid +post,...

Panasonic NV-DS55B or Canon MV750i? by Daz N
Hi, I have a Panasonic NV-DS55B camcorder that has developed a slight fault, when you load tapes every now-and-then it spins the reel fast, beeps a few times and then ejects the tape, although this is an intermittent fault it always happens at that critical moment! I decided to buy a new camcorder and went for the Canon MV750i, first I couldn't believe how cheap camcorders are these days,...

Converting tapes to DVDs by ivan
My sister-in-law (who has many video tapes) recently decided to purchase a Bush VCR/DVD recorder combo, her logic being that she could then copy all of her existing video collection onto a shiny new DVD's, thus solving her storage problems. However it wasn't to be, as every time she inserts a pre-recorded tape in an attempt to produce a DVD back up, a pop up message appears telling her that this...

MPEGs and their quality levels by corlioni1976
Hi all, Can some one tell me the different mpeg levels and the qualities they produce. At the moment I am transferring my movies from my JVCDX77 and the quality doesn't look too good. The movie size is 320 by 240. When I convert the movies to VCD 1 using Nero 6 on a friends computer(I only have a CDRW at the moment cant afford a DVD writer yet) and play back on my DVD player I get a blocky...
