Capturing VHS with my PC
Questions:
I have connected my VHS recorder directly to my pc using scart with an input
and output switch. I have also connected using S-Video lead but find that
even though I can get picture and sound, there is no colour. I am using
Ulead VideoStudio 7 and have adjusted the configuration accordingly ie to
PAL, but no matter what I choose there is no colour. I...

| | Wide angle adapters - mini review by
Wally
Following up from a previous thread, I got a wide angle adapter - a Raynox
DVM-700 from Jessops for 35 quid. I took the camera with me, filmed a short
clip with each of the adapters I was interested in, and then checked them
out at home. Here's a review of the four that I tried...

| | Advice Sought: White Balance Issue? by
Hi,
We have been shooting some video in school to help kids with their Maths.
Using a camcorder we have fixed the camera on a A4 piece of paper whilst the
teacher draws various mathematical diagrams. Our first attempt produced too
dark an image on the A4 paper so we borrowed a light from our Drama
department and used that to illuminate the paper.
The result was a much brighter image but as the...

| | Computer Upgrade by
ivan
After toying with the idea of buying a DVD recorder, I decided that it would
probably be more sensible to upgrade my computer and use that instead.
At the moment I'm running a K7S5A motherboard with a Duron 700 CPU, 250M of
memory and I'm using an external Humax Freeview receiver connected to a Win
TV card via the S\video input.
I realise that this set-up pretty inadequate, so I'm looking for...

Anyone here actually use these cards with Premiere Pro 1.5?
I'm a bit worried that a few 'hard-core' Matrox users I know
say the RT's have always been very 'picky' with hardware
(motherboard etc). Does Premiere Pro 1.5 still 'integrate'
better (eg show real-time transitions etc) with the RT's than
any other card, or have Adobe made it work with other
semi/pro (or whatever the marketing hype is)...

| | Double speed video by
Wally
Is there software (free?) that will allow me to create a version of my
recording which plays back at double speed? I want to maintain DV quality in
a clip that I can then pull into an editor to make a movie in the normal
fashion.

| | should i get a new camcorder? by
Ray
I'm considering whether to get our Panasonic NVGS3 camcorder repaired (it
doesn't seem to play back tapes although it seems to record ok - at least
the screen says it's recording!) or whether to just get a new one.
Are there any good deals out there (with dv in and out)?

I used to be indecisive but I don't think I am now. Well, maybe I am, just a
little, possibly. But on the other hand ..

| | canon mv830i mv850i - true widescreen? by
Dave Newman
Been looking at various web sites with respect to this camera, and one
thing is confusing me.
It says in the canon blurb that this camera is 'true' widescreen in
that it uses the full width of the CCD. Now if they've stretched it
anamorphically, surely they'd be using the full _height_ of the CCD?
In a camera in this bracket, the CCD couldn't be widescreen could it?
or perhaps it's because for...

Hatzigiannakis Nikos
I have just got a Sony SCR HD 1000 3CCD camcorder.
When I shoot and playback, there is a blue screen gap (5 seconds) between
sceens.
Is there something I can do, or should I live with it?

| | Best ISP for uploading large video files??? by
Jim
I frequently upload video clips to the web and I am cheesed off with the
appalling low upload speeds of most Brit ISPs. I am currently with the NTL
£25 a month 750k download/128k upload package. I also read that this will be
upgraded to 2MB download and 200 kB upload without an increase in charge. I
have no complaints about that in general - it seems like a good deal--for
people who don't...

| | Firewire not working properly by
corlioni1976
Hi All
I bought a fire wire card and cable for about £25 the other week and when I
connect my camera to me computer the connection is intermediate. When, for
instance the light to my room is turned on the connection drops out or if
there is other electrical noise then the connection drops out.
does this sound like the cable is not shielded? Should it be shielded?
Thanks

Is it recommended to remove the tape and battery from a camcorder when
it is not being used for a few days?
I can find no reference to this in the manual of a recently purchased
Panasonic camcorder.

| | New Sony Top-End Model by
Tony Morgan
I've just been told about a new Sony camcorder, the DCR-TVR50, selling
at about £1000 (no doubt that will come down).
It's being promoted as being a replacement for the TRV30 (which I've had
for about three years) - they stopped the TRV30 production when the
TRV60 and TRV80 hit the streets a couple of years ago.
Looks like they've ditched the bloody awful touch screen and gone back
to the...

| | LCD Screen Protectors? by
Tony Morgan
A while ago I saw some LCD screen protectors for sale, but I can't
recall where. Anyone know where you can get these.
They are small sheets of low-tack clear plastic, designed to protect
touch-screens (especially if a stylus is used).
