| | Cool Video Website-Playable Demos-MUST SEE by
Steve Franklin
Me thinks someone got Trapcodes 'Shine' for xmas?
I have to say two things here.
1. More cheese than your average fondue.
2. Fair play. Your average married couple/doting parent probably love this
kind of cheese.

| | Ebay Sale of Sony DCR-TRV30E by
Tony Morgan
There is a TRV30 being bid on currently at £143, in an auction that ends
in an hour. I have no connection with the seller, but the TRV30 is the
camcorder that I've used and loved for getting on to three years.
This model has virtually the same functionality of today's top-end
Sony's (e.g. the HC85) (but without the touch screen - which can only be
a good thing).
At under £200 it is (IMHO) a...

| | Crap one year camcorder warranties by
informer
I would have thought that the average camcorder in most households is the
least used piece of electronics they have. I bought a JVC camcorder in
November 2003 which has been used for just three events. This was Christmas
2003 and 2004 plus my annual 2 weeks in the sun. Total usage less than 6
hours including the initial play with it when I first got it. Well 15
months later the picture on...

| | Sony HC39 vs HC42 by
Jon Pitt
First time Camcorder buyer. Is DV-in really that important. I can only
really see myself downloading to PC and storing files on PC or output to
DVD. Read something that makes editing easier with DV-in. Not sure I
understand why.
Also is widescreen and Megapixel worth the extra?? Maybe I would be best
with HC22. No need for analogue in or digital photo on HC32
Any views on these models. As I...

| | Which Camcorder do I need ? by
Vass
Advice please
I have a Canon MV600i attached to a bullet cam (small external camera)
mounted to my motorbike/helmet and powered by the bikes 12V battery.
This setup works http://www.naldernet.plus.com/minehead%2011%20mins.WMV
however its a pain in the **** to use the IR remote control to start the
recording, then pack away the camera and remote
before we set off and have the camera...

| | New Microsoft download for Premiere Pro by
Pat Carpenter
Just received notification of a Microsoft fix for Premiere Pro and XP.
To quote :-
When you try to convert your video production in Adobe Premiere Pro to the Moving Pictures Experts Group 2 (MPEG-2) format,
the .mp2 file is not converted, and either Adobe Premiere Pro or your
Microsoft Windows XP-based computer may stop responding (2/18/2005).

| | DVD playback by
Wally
Been practicing making DVDs, and I've found that my domestic DVD player can
only get as far as the menu - I can navigate and select a clip, but it can't
play back the video. It almost manges some video on one disk, but it's just
a few frames, which then freeze. After this, it won't respond, except to the
eject button. The menu and playback work fine in the computer's DVD drive,
and in a mate's...

| | Overlays by
Wally
Okay, how do I do overlays? :-)
I want to overlay animated graphics on video footage. The graphics will be
derived from real-time captured data - my plan is to read the data with
software (written in VB) and generate the individual frames by using the
software to manipulate the graphical elements. For each frame, the software
creates a still image with a transparent background. At the moment,...

| | New Sony camcorders DCRHC39/42 by
StephenH
Hi
Have been looking at getting a new camcorder after my last one was stolen.
Put off Panasonic as the one I had was terrible (NVGS50). Slow
mechanism, poor performance in low light and picture quality that was
only marginally better than my old Sony 8mm camera!
Anyway, I see the new range Sony have just released and I might go for
one of these - either the DCRHC39 or the DCRHC42 (because...

| | HDD Troubles by
Alan S.
System:
1GHz PC (old but working OK)
256Mb Memory
Running Adobe Premier 6.0
I've had a well working system for some time, with a Western Digital
80Gb 7200rpm hard disc for video storage. I recently decided on a bigger
hard disc and bought a 120Gb 7200rpm Seagate drive.

As subject, i really want a cam that will give me a nice soft
background as you see in the movies.
I'm guessing with the characteristics of miniDV there's going to be no
viable options.. but hey, someone out there may know otherwise, or
have some great tips for me. :D

Done, I believe, by opening up the aperture giving smaller depth of
field.

You'd need a bigger camera.

| | Copying a DVD (home-recorded, not protected by Macrovision) by
Martin Underwood
What is involved in copying a home-made video DVD (recorded on a standalone
DVD recorder as opposed to a computer)?
Is it as simple as using a PC with a DVD writer drive to copy the file and
directory structure from one DVD (eg DVD-RAM) to another (eg DVD-R), maybe
by copying to HDD with a simple Windows Explorer copy and then from HDD to
new DVD using Nero? Obviously the drive has to be capable...

| | Canon EX1 Hi8 by
Bob Edwards
I have an old Canon EX1 which has not been used for some time because there
is a problem with the tape mechanism - play/record and eject are working
intermittently.
Is it really worth spending £200 to get this fixed and then try to sell the
camera? I have no further use for it as I now have a new DV camcorder.
Thanks,
Bob

| | SONY DCR-HC1000 problems in auto mode - bad picture quality by
Hatzigiannakis Nikos
When I shoot in auto mode, the bright areas of the scene seems like
'flickering', I have to manually adjust the sharpness level down to 2
(settings 1 to 10) in order to eliminate that problem. I don't know if that
adjustment affects overall picture quality.
Is that normal?
