Help identify digital camera. by Marc.
Can anyone please help me to identify this camera please? It's entirely unbranded but within it's limitations performs very well indeed; I'm pretty sure that finding the exact right driver for it will improve the images still further. There's an image of it at http://www.chirgles.btinternet.co.uk/unbranded_camera.jpg Thank you!

OT - Firewire connections by Margaret
I am sure one of you guys out there will be able to give me a quick answer. I have just bought a laptop with a 4 pin firewire connection which I know I will be able to use with our Canon 600i and my slide scanner and external HD - but what is the effect and what happens if I connect to the firewire on my PC? Can the computers talk to each other this way, can they see each others HD or...

Sony DV video to CD by Bill Shurben
I have been trying to make a VCD of a 23 minute Video from my Sony Cam Corder. I'm using Image Maker VER 1.5 that came with the camera. I have installed a Firewire board which works fine. The whole capture process seems complete and conversion takes place but is interrupted before completion with comment that there is insufficient HHD space. I have a 18GB drive with 9.4GB still available....

WMV files by Mike
Hi, I'm quite inexperienced in working with digital video but pretty experienced in using Windows. My problem is I've been asked to process a whole load of video files which are in WMV format. The job is pretty basic - just join them up and burn them to disc so they'll play back on a DVD player and a computer. If they were MPG or AVI files I would be able to do this pretty quickly using Pinnacle...

Software for editing MPEG-2 files by Chris Croughton
What I'm wanting to do is editing TV programs extracted from the TiVo using TyTools to put them on DVD (Nero is good to actually put them there), and I'm looking for something to edit MPEG2 files. Specifically, I want to be able to shift the sound relative to the picture, because NTL are crap at sound synchronisation (this isn't the recording, I've seen it happen 'live' with the sound being ahead...

Canon MV6i problem by Hoodoo
Hello My Canon MV6i has been fine for 18 months but yesterday when I tried to play a tape the LCD monitor alternated between a blue screen and a very pixelated image of what was on tape. Also when I tried to rewind it sounded ok but the display just flashed. When I pressed play again it was in the same place as it was before. I tried different tapes but it's always the same.I tried phoning...

End Titles by John Russell
I am trying to replicate some end titles I've seen recently. In these titles the video compresses horizontally to the left, thus allowing the titles to scroll on the right. I can make the "title" overlay using Microsoft Moviemaker, but I can't do the compression using Sony Vegas. Vegas does have an FX which will compress horizontally, but leaving the video in the center. Anyone know of an...

Premiere6.5 and photos. by Fadel@eblcom.ch
When I add still pictures in a film with Premiere 6.5, the ones taken vertically are pulled apart when incorporated in a film, so that people look terribly fat. That only happens with pictures taken with camera vertical (standing people etc..) How can I avoid that "fattening" ? Thanks and regards Fadel

Long Play Tape capture problem by Rob D
Someone´s given me some MiniDV footage shot on Long Play, what´s worse, on a different brand of camcorder than mine. It plays back fine through my camera, but I can´t capture it via Firewire through any apps I´ve tried. having just googled the problem it does seem to be quite a well known issue. What I´d like to know is if anyone here´s found a way around it other than capturing in analog -...

HDD problem by G Hardy
Hi, folks. I'm trying to put a second HDD onto the second IDE channel of a Dell 2400. The CDR that's already there on "cable select" reports UDMA2 before installation. When the HDD is installed as device 0, the CDR goes down to PIO only and the HDD to UDMA2. If I disconnect the CDR the HDD works at its proper UDMA5 setting. I've tried a different optical device, two 80-wire IDE cables and all...

(OT) digital sound recording by Mike Scott
Sorry this is rather OT, although it's not altogether irrelevant to digital video. A friend has raised the issue of digital audio recording onto something pocket-sized, with a fast copy back to PC ready for recording to CD. The aim is to record choir practices and be able to edit these down quickly to play on a stereo system (eg for learning while driving). The original idea was to use a...

I am searching for a source of information detailing the capacities and running times of programmes burned to CD and DVD using all the amazing variety of compression systems, file formats, codecs, screen sizes, display players (Real, WMP, Quicktime), and the optional settings and variations of each.of these. And it would be great if recommendations for quality were also given. Does such a...
