| | Recording audio by
StephenH
If I have a mini DV camcorder and shoot some film and record the audio
separately, say onto a portable MiniDisc unit or a portable MP3 recorder
in conjunction with a separate microphone - am I likely to encounter any
problems with synchronisation?
I know with tape you can get fluctuations in the speed the tape actually
runs, etc, but what is digital tape like for this? Is it exact or are...

| | have you got an nv-gs400 ? by
srp@lycos.co.uk
I was wandering if someone with this camcorder could make some sample
video available on emule or some other file sharing network ? Quite
interested to see what it's capable of to see if it's worth upgrading
my gs70. The image stabilisation is the main thing that interests me
really.
Cheers,
Simon

| | JVC GR-D230 vs Canon MV850i by
Ebermensch
The Canon is around 150 EUR more (We know it might not work on a UK TV,
that's not an issue as we live in Belgium ).
The question we have is that on features they seem about equal, except that
the JVC only has a 10X zoom. Is a longer zoom (considering optical only, of
course) practical anyway?
We're only occasional users so we don't need a top of the range model, but
we're prepared to pay...

| | Video Codec suggestions for video capture by
Donald Thompson
I'm trying to capture video to an avi file from a digital video camera. Does anyone have a suggestion for a codec that provides
minimal compression with sharp images? Uncompressed won't work, because the filesize is too large, but 10-15 gigabytes for an
hour of video wouldn't be unreasonable. I've tried divx and MS MPEG-4, but they seem to have some trouble with blurring around
the edges. The...

| | Panasonic GS220 - black and white on TV. by
John Bornholt
When I connect my Panasonic GS220 to a television, I only get a black
and white picture. I'm using the s-video and audio cables supplied
with the camera and have connected as described in the manual via a
scart adapter. Since the manual is deficient in this (and other) areas,
it isn't clear which of the 3 connectors in the audio cable go where in
the scart adapter. So I have swapped...

| | Advice on Panasonic E95 please ... by
CJB
Please can someone advise on the Panasonic E95 with 160Gb harddrive. I
bought this in Tottenham Court Road in London for £399 (discounted
from £800 !!!). Hmm - I wondered why. Aha - now I've found out.
You can't get the Panasonic DVD-R and DVD-RAM discs!! I trawled the
entire length of TCR and no-one had any - none - zero - zilch.
And Panasonic advise on not using any other manufacturers. The...

Looking to purchase a digital camcorder, not too bothered about still image

2: Best available indoor video quality(tried a Canon MV6i & very
disappointed against my Old sony Hi8 brick)
3: quite compact
4: reliable
5: not too bothered about the bells n whistles, probably only point & shoot,
but if they come with the video...

| | Where to go for second hand? by
toby@toby.org.uk
Hi folks,
I'm a student wanting to start practising video production and editing,
and I'm looking to pick up a second hand prosumer miniDV cam. Best bet
at the moments looks like the Panasonic AG-DVX100 (non 'A').
Does anyone have any suggestions about good places to keep an eye out
for this kind of second hand kit? Obviously eBay, warnings
notwithstanding; are there any good dealers (though...

| | DVD Playback - Cropped Menu & Video by
Hywel Jenkins
I'm mucking about with the demo of DVD Lab, trying to get 16:9 output
from ES4.1.4 on to disc. That I can do, to an extent.
I've set up the menu, linked it all together, and compiled the DVD,
which plays correctly on my PC with WinDVD6. The VOBs also play
correctly with BSPlayer. When I burn the DVD it plays correctly in my PC
under WinDVD, but on the TV both the menus and the video are...

| | Mini Dv Question? by
JimboSlim
Hi Dvers
Simple Question Are all mini DV tapes compatible with each other?
I had my Sony TRV50E Mini DV stolen in Barcelona.
I now have the Insurance money.
Do I have to buy a Sony to make sure my old Sony recorded Mini DV tapes
still work.

| | Exporting a (JPG) still from VirtualDub by
Neil Smith [MVP Digital Media]
More or less : Open video file, find desired frame. Hit Ctrl+1 (or
menu : Video - Copy source frame to clipboard)
Paste into for further editing
(which you'll almost certainly have to do) and then Save-As JPEG from
your art package.
Cheers - Neil

| | Recording from cameras to DVD recorder? by
Ian S R Smith
Hi folks,
I'm in the process of setting up an Endless Pool for commercial use (swim
coaching). I plan to use three cameras to record customers as they swim -
two underwater and one overhead.
I want the cameras to feed into a DVD recorder so that (a) their efforts can
be recorded in real time,
(b) I can immediately play back to them (either on a large screen TV or
projecting onto a white...

| | Temporary rendering file location in Sony Vegas 5 by
Laz
Hi,
A friend of mine is using vegas 5 for editing his DV tapes. He is capturing
the video, editing and then (hopefully!) printing back to DV tape.
He has a problem: during the print to tape step, vegas creates a large
pre-render file under C:\Documents and Settings\user\Application
Data\Sony\Vegas\5\ (or something like that). Unfortunately, he does not
have much space on his C partition and it...

| | Rotating MPEGs by
Rusty
I am now using Ulead MovieStudio 8.0 SE DVD to edit my movies, but I
can't seem to find an option for rotating clips. My camera (digital
camera) gives me mpeg1 files (640x480 30fps).
Will I have to do the rotating in VirtualDub and at the same time
convert the files to .avi, or is there some other clever way of doing it?
Thanks for the help
Rusty
