problem of head on camcorder, help by Fidji
I've sold a Sony Hi8 Camcorder (first generation of camcorder, DCR TRV-7000E ). The buyer tell me now that he cannot read tape that has been recorded on others camcorders (I think 8mm) and from test tape that professionnals use. But it record well and read his own recorded tape. He asked a repairer that told head are defective. Is that possible that a camcorder that record and read very well...

Self contained DVD writers for MiniDV editing ? by Malcolm Stewart
Just wondering if any of the current crop of self-contained DVD writers / TV recorders (with built-in HDDs) are half capable of editing my MiniDV films before burning to DVD? I've used Ulead's VideoStudio 8 in the past but it crashes too often on my PC, and am now wondering if there's a different route to try. I'm not after fancy effects - just want to be able to remove the rubbish, move...

Filming through glass by Malcolm Stewart
Found myself on a coach trip through the Lakes last w/e, and quickly noticed that my Sony TRV22's viewfinder was showing the glorious sunlit views (through the coach windows) with a heavy blue tinge. Switched from "Auto White Balance" to "Outdoor", and all was fine. Would this indicate that the sensors are looking for UV when setting the White Balance? Visually the views seemed fine, and I...

Time & date codes in DV recordings by Griffo Fooxburr
Hello all, Besides the fact that some (at least the ones I've tried) DV capturing utilities use the timecode from a DV tape to name the destination file, how can I use these pieces of information after my footage has been packed into its AVI container? Is it there after the capture, at all? I'm asking this because by now I have mastered the capturing process and am ready to move to the second...

Sony DCR-PC55E - Noisy Firewire Captures with Ulead Media Studio Pro 7.3 by Scott Jackson
The Sony DCR-PC55E released onto the market earlier this year is billed as 'World smallest MiniDV Handycam...' You can check it out he http://www.sony.co.uk/ShowProduct.do?site=odw_en_GB&category=CAM+MiniDV&product=DCR-PC55E Sadly though, there appears to be a problem when using this camcorder with Ulead Media Studio Pro 7.3 - a lot of 'crackling' and distortion on the sound during capture-...

Canon MVX350i - Awesome! by John Anderson
Got this the other day for about £465 from MISCO and I'm dead impressed with both the video and stills quality. I agree with the man he http://www.simplydv.co.uk/Reviews/canon_mvx350i.html This cam really is as good as a budget three-chipper. And the 20x optical zoom is a major bonus. You'll maybe want the big battery Canon BP-2L14 at £49 (+delivery)

Rant - DVdoctor forums... by :::Jerry::::
What the hell were those behind the forums thinking of, attempting a total rebuild of a working forum on the eve of NAB (one of the biggest video, NLE, broadcast event of the year), knowing that many companies are releasing / announcing their latest products at this event and that many people around the world will be reading such web sites to gain an insight - are they trying to drive people away...

DVD Replication / Duplication in the UK by j'arrow@home.net
Hullo I've produced a 2 hour compilation DVD for a British Association, after several weeks hard work they have fulfilled their original order of 50 units (DVD-5, photo quality label, DVD Case, photo quality DVD sleeve & individually shrink wrapped). They are extremely confident that they can shift a *lot* more - although they have yet to define *lot*...

Generation loss with DV? by Griffo Fooxburr
Hello all, I understand that if I copy a miniDV tape from one camcorder to another directly, I'll get EXACT copy, i.e. without any loss of quality, assuming there are no hardware errors. What I want to know is will the same apply if I transfer (capture) DV footage via fireware onto a hard disk and then put it back via firewire again onto another tape? Are there some additional things I should...

vhs tape transfer to hard disk: Anyone have any experience with this stand-alone video capture product? http://www.miglia.com/products/video/dcscart/index.html It mentions that it uses DV-25, has two way scart, s-video and Firewire If you do then is there still a need for a Macrovision disable from my Sony SLV-E700 vcr?

Name of effect? Creating out-of-focus are _around_ a subject? by Traveller
I've done some online searching and in my Vegas Video 4 manual but I'm not getting any results. I know it must be because I'm not searching for the right thing. It's something you see a on TV or in movies occasionally, when the camera has a shot of the main subject and lots of surrounding people, etc., but the camera focuses on the subject and the rest of the screen goes out of focus so that we...
