| | Samsung digital video camera file playback by
andyb
Hi
I have just bought a new hard-drive digital video camera (actual an SD
card camera rather than built-in disk).
My main reason for wanting such a camera is so I can simply drag and
drop the files on to my PC and save/view/upload them from there. I can
easily transfer the files on to PC either by USB or direct from the SD
card. They are in mp4 format, which open in Quicktime by default.

| | Panny DMR-E95 - how to back up hard disk? by
CJB[_2_]
Please can someone advise me. I have a DMR-E95 DVD recorder with hard
disk. The hard disk is nearly full of archived home movies. The disk
is also starting to have problems with sound. I need to back up the
contents to a multi-media server on my home network. How can I do this
please? Backing up to hundreds of DVD-RAM disks is not an option - too
expensive and time consuming. Thank you. Chris B.

| | Any way to get AVI files onto DVD without compression?? by
neil f[_2_]
Hi folks.
I recently transferred a bunch of Super 8 sound home movies to video, using
wall projection and firewire from a Sony video camera. The final results
(after many trials and experiments) seem excellent to my eye. I'm keen to
copy the films onto DVDs and spread them around various family households
for viewing and safe keeping. However, whenever I try to save the
uncompressed AVI...

| | Editing an MPG file without re-encoding it by
Mortimer
Is there any software that can perform simple edits on an mpeg file, such as
top- and tailing it and removing commercial breaks, without having to
re-encode the whole file. I'm sure it must be possible: 95% of the file is
unchanged so you do a byte-for-byte copy, with only a few frames around the
edit point needing to be re-encoded. Pinnacle Studio 10 is great for
editing, but then takes...

| | Camera-to-camera copy by firewire by
Geoff Clare
I have an old Sony Digital-8 camcorder, and I'm planning to get a
mini-DV model to replace it. I want to be able to copy my old tapes
onto mini-DV. Having done a bit of research I know I should be able
to do this camera-to-camera if the new camcorder has DV-in and I buy
a 4 pin to 4 pin firewire cable, but there is one thing I'm not sure
about: how to make the mini-DV camcorder start...

| | Alba RDVD1000 ? by
the_constructor
I have an Alba RDVD1000 DVD recorder, which, when I record from the TV onto
a DVD+R/W will not then allow me to copy from this DVD+R/W onto a different
machine.
It keeps showing on screen a security warning.
I can copy to tape, but even trying to copy from tape onto another DVd
brings the same warning message up
Why and what can I do ?

| | DVD Recorder Question ? by
the_constructor
Hi,
Recently I was given an ALBA DVD Recorder. It had a DVD stuck inside the
drawer. I tested it and sure enough the drawer would not open.
Upon removing the cover, I soon saw that the DVD mechanism had exactly the
same electrical connections as that in a PC. I removed the mechanism,
connected it to my PC and used the My_Computer options to open the drive. I
then removed the DVD and...

| | Shrink Wrap for your home DVD? by
John[_5_]
If you have made a home movie that you've put on DVD and want to
shrink wrap it so it looks extra special like it has just been bought
in the shops, does anyone know of any places that sell shrink wrap
that you can diy yourself at home?
E.g. about 10 years ago I used to make my own wine, and you could get
plastic tops that go over the top of the bottle and the cork, then
what you would do is...

I am using the Sandisk Vmate to record TV onto an SD card. It records in MP4
(iso). Can anyone recommend a freeware program to edit the finished MP4. I
want to cut out the adverts etc.

| | Norfolk Video Maker Wanted by
Ian Thompson-Bell
My neighbour Bob last year released his fourth album entitled 'Norfolk
Heroes' which is available in Jarrolds and many other stores on the
North Norfolk coast. The first track is called 'Down The A149' which
describes the various places on that road between Kings Lyn and Cromer.
We want to make a video to accompany this song showing clips of the
various places mentioned in the song and are...

| | Freeview BBC 1 by
Moo
I'm not getting any listings for BBC one on my freeview box (from
tomorrow onwards). Usually shows 14 days in advance, all of the other
channels appear ok and there's no signal problems etc. Last few days
I've been getting a few 'program/film to be announced', but only on BBC
1, I put this down to the sport over the weekend and that it may alter
times etc.
Anyone else having trouble?

I've just boughtthe above to replace my old Hi8 and noticed a very

Is this a known problem with the camera, or have I got a bad one?
TIA

| | Which Camera? And other questions by
patrick j
Hi
I'm sure the question "which camera?" comes up quite a lot :)
So, with an apology in advance, I am asking it again.
I have very little technical knowledge about video cameras. I'm pretty good
at filming because I have directed in the past, over ten years ago, for
some TV companies. However then of course there was a full crew and so
almost no technical knowledge was needed from me. I...

| | splitting .avi into several chunks automatically by
Lenny De Vos
Hi,
I'm looking for a free tool that can split an .avi automatically into chunks
of less than 2 GB ... in order to copy them to an external HDD in FAT.
I've searched Google and found many tools, but none of them really work for
me. They are either not free or they don't accept my standard Premiere .avi
files or they don't work automatically or they don't work at all!
