| | Digital8 horizontal banding & sound dropping out on playback by
dave @ stejonda
My trusty Sony TRV730e Digital8 camcorder has just started to play up.
The picture is divided by several thick black horizontal bands and the
sound drops in/out continuously.
I've run a head-cleaning tape through but this has had no effect. The
problem occurs on both the just-recorded and older tapes.
What could be the reason please? Is an economic repair likely to be
possible?

| | Use of DVD+RW in computers and DVDRecorders by
Fadel@eblcom.ch
I'm using DVD+RW in my computer and in the videorecorder connected to
the TV. The discs I use on the computer cannot be read, formatted or
erased on the DVD Recorder. However, videos created on the computer
can be read by the DVD Recorder. How can I get the DVD Recorder to use
DVDdiscs used by the computer? Can I format thes RW+ discs somehow?
Thanks and regrds

| | Compact DVD player as camcorder display ? Cable ? by
Malcolm Stewart
I note that there's now a choice of compact DVD players (around 7" screen
size), and have wondered whether to get one so that I can play back my
"video masterpieces" g, when away from base. Was told today that they all
have an AV In socket, and on the one I examined it was a 3.5mm co-axial.
Does anyone know who supplies suitable cables i.e. 3.5 to 3.5mm. I don't
particularly want to use two...

| | Audio level meter by
ivan
Does any one know of a DVD burning programme which actually incorporates a
visual adjustable audio level meter?
As the two programmes I use that were supplied free with a USB DVD maker (so
I can't really complain) both rely on the Windows in-built volume controls,
which I have found to be a bit of a hit and miss procedure, sometimes
producing anything from barely none to grossly over modulated...

on the terrestrial system, ie,
through aerial, selecting channel 3 on video, brings in channel 9, back to
whatever we are waching, on telewest. ie, channel 3 in video is channel 9.

Nik
Hi
I'm looking for an LCD TV with built-in DVD player - Pref around 21" - I
know DMTech do one but the main drawback is, I would really like one that
has a resume mode so the dvd's don't start from the beginning each time
Anyone out there recommend any models?

I know DMTech do one - but the dvd doesn't seem to support resume mode - so
the movie always starts from the beginning which is a pain - looking for
suggestions - size around 20" plus

Hi All,
I am trying to create a web page that lists free to use software that can be
used for video editing. From capturing to burning to DVD\CD etc. To do
this I require your help and experience. If you have used any software that
is free (not eval software) and trustworthy (not containing spyware or
virii(?)) then please can you let me know about your experiences and provide

| | Question about splitting avi in Premiere by
Beemer
Am I correct that to split an avi file (to cut off several blank hours of
unattended capture) within Premiere Pro it can only be done by export/render
operation?
I did this to a 48GB file to cut it to 14GB of actual video but it takes a
long time. My question is really asking why does Premiere not offer a quick
way of doing this like I understand Videodub can do (which I have not...

| | Digital8 resolution by
PeeS
Hi all,
My digital camcorder has fried its firewire port, and I ended up with lots
of video tapes, that were not transfered to DVD or PC yet.
My broken camcorder is TRV-740 with 1.07 megapixel CCD.
My question is: Do I get the full resolution of recorded material if I use
for transfer some cheaper model with 0.54 megapixel CCD ?
Best Regards
PawelS

| | Transferring files to PC by
Tanel Kagan
After some deliberation I have decided to opt for a MiniDV camcorder as
opposed to the new DVD models.
I have read about keeping a full quality MPEG-2 version of footage on my PC,
as well as the compressed version which is ultimately burned to DVD for
distribution, and generally reference is made to FireWire.
If necessary, I will purchase a FireWire card, but is it not possible to
transfer...

| | Sony DCR HC42 or DCR HC42E by
Craig Lister
Hello.
I have found the Sony HC42 for a good price and found the HC42E for £10 more
expensive. The shop says that the HC42 is the UK spec and as I live in the
Uk I assume that is the right model to go for.
Could somebody confirm that this is correct and that I should go for the
HC42?
Thanks,

Hi all...I know this is off topic, but given that the UK has had digital for
longer that you blokes would have a pretty good idea about this. That is if
everyones not to busy fielding the myriad of other on topic queries?

Keith
Hi,
I have a canon mvx330 connected to my WinXP PC using the Ilink/firewire
port. After capturing the DV, I do not get any sound when playing back the
captured video. I am using Movie Maker.
Am I missing an audio codec? If so could you please let me know where i
might obtain such a codec?
thanks, keith
