| | Newbie question about archiving by
Brayne Ded
Hi all. I'm very new to digital video. I want to know what is the best
file format (PC) to store video/clips for future editing. Currently I am
saving the files from my DV camera in AVI format. Is this a "lossless"
format, or should I archive in some other way?

change the format.
Thanks,

| | app 1.5 with dual monitors by
tg
I have adobe premier pro 1.5 (on Windows XP) and if possible I'd like to
make use of the dual monitors I have on my PC. My graphics card is an Nvidia
GF4 Ti4200. I've hunted around inside APP but can't find anywhere where it
allows you to make good use of dual monitors - or maybe I'm not looking in
the right place. What I'd like is to run APP on the primary monitor and
output the preview...

electronic gadgetry would be needed in between?

Trying to make a 7.2 v external battery pack (NiMh) but when I connect it to
the camera,"Use Info Lithium" comes up on the LCD and the camera switches
off.
Is there a way to defeat this,or fool the camera into accepting external
power ?
I am connecting up by removing the Infolithium battery and connecting to the
pins on the camera, the pins (+ and -) the normal battery uses, the centre pin
is not...

The 2.5" LCD display Monitor in NV-GS5B stopped displaying. It's
completely black (like it is not turned on). First it still displayed image
when the LCD display was opened a bit, and when opened further it was black
again, but later it didn't display any image even when a little opened. It's
black all the time no matter in which position it is opened.
Please advise what happened and how can I...

DG
Any one got an opinion re the Panasonic NV-GS150EB?
Seems to get Ok reviews.
Are there real advantages with 3ccd at this price (circa £500)?
Are there better with 1ccd for the same price?

| | MPEG-2 or AVI DV? by
DG
What are the benefits of AVI DV over MPEG-2, if any?
I am looking for a new camcorder and see that MPEG-2 format recordings are
creeping in. Is there any particular reason?
How about editing? Are there any practical differences in the two?
Thanks.

| | Hardware MPEG encoding, which card by
Ben Thomas
Hi all,
I have been trying to turn my MiniDV home videos into DVDs but it takes many
hours to encode the MPEG for the DVD on my AMD Athlon XP 2700+ with 512MB RAM
and 7200RPM hard disk, using Ulead VideoStudio. It seems to take even longer to
convert MPEG2 (captured from my digital TV card) into MPEG2 suitable for DVD.
I'm guessing CPU is the main problem and there aren't many faster CPU...

Hi all.
Can anyone tell me what I need to transfer video from this camcorder to my
hard disk and (hopefully) from there to a DVD? In terms of hardware,
software, cables, ports, etc etc?
I have read (am reading) the instruction book but it isnt as clear as I'd
like and I thought I'd see if anyone could help me in plain English.
Thanks.
