| | Capture to AVI from DVD video? by
Malcolm H
Many years ago I made some home movies with a super 8 cine camera.
Subsequently I copied these movies to VHS video tape using an analogue
camcorder. Later on I dubbed the VHS video to DVD via a DVD recorder.
I now would like to capture the video from the DVD to my hard disk so that I
can do some editing with Pinnacle studio and thereby produce a much more
professional compendium of all the...

| | How to setup AV decoder in balanced pre/power setup by
deja
I've got a CD player with combined pre-amp (ie digital volume control
and input selector), it has 4 digital inputs (set top box and DVD
player audio), and analogue outputs direct to the power amps via
balanced XLR leads.
My question is - how would I slot in an AV decoder into this setup in
order to:
- continue using the balanced type connections between CD and amps
- use the CD's DAC capability...

TIA

| | digital by
Maurice Hood
Off topic but I can not find a site for photography.
Intend to buy a new digital camera,
question is 1. buy the maximum pixels and ignore the optical zoom or
2. go for the average pixels with the maximum zoom.
Any opinions?

| | Recording from DVOut - TRV 238E by
Alan Wright
Hi
I've installed Pinnacle 9 as an editing suite but when I try and record from
my camcorder I get an error message telling me that the program is trying to
record from a 1394 port but no camera appears to be connected. Im fairly
certain that Pinnacle is loaded correctly and the Firewire lead is ok, the
device manager teels me that the card is being recognised but I still can't
get anything...

| | Sony DCR-HC14E woes by
Borrox
Hello
My father has purchased a Sony DCR-HC14E Handycam and has taken a series of
'films' of the family on holiday. Obviously he wants them put onto a CD or
preferrably a DVD to play on a standalone player for other relatives. Now,
after finally realising that the USB of the camera was disabled and having
the guy at Curry's enable it I am trying to get the footage onto my computer
and then...

| | Canon XM2 - motor noise by
ng598
I have read one review which suggests that the Canon XM2 suffers from
picking up noise from the motor via the microphone.
How bad is this? I wasn't expecting to hear of this sort of problem with a
semi-pro camcorder, so I hope it's very slight.

| | Sony PC9 DV camcorder - audio dropouts by
jonesn@my-deja.com
I have a Sony DV PC9 camcorder that's around 3 1/2 years old. Since new
I've recorded around 15-20 tapes, all Sony Excellence.
In the last 2 months I've started getting audio dropouts on playback.
This occurs when played on the camcorder (goes silent) or when
capturing (with nero it goes into digital audio breakup ie wierd
harmonics etc) for glitches of around 1-2s at a time, but repeated
every...

| | DV video to PC by
tim
I have recently bought a Canon MV830i and would like to copy my video
footage to my PC, and then burn to CD. There appears to be nothing in the
manual or on the accompanying CD (Canon Digital Video Software) telling me
how to do this (it's all about using the USB cable to dump stills), can
someone enlighten me please?
TIA

| | the mishmash of 4:3 and 16:9 by
tg
If I'm not mistaken, when WinMCE (2005) records a program it records it in
the format it is trasmitted, it doesn't record it at the zoom level you may
have chosen to view it. The vast majority of TV programmes nowdays is 16:9.
This presents me with a problem as I have a 4:3 TV. Using the zoom function
in MCE while I'm viewing a program enables me to toggle between 4:3PS and
4:3LB and get a true...

| | Blocky video on recorded digital film by
David
Hi.
I have a canon MV500i digital camcorder, which has been ok for the past
couple of years. But just recently, when I've been using it to record
the video, it's been acting up weird.
A few weeks ago, I recorded an assembly at our school, and for the
first fifteen minutes, it filmed with a stripey effect. What happened
was that there would be a horizontal line of the actual recording, then
a...

| | Sony DVD RW DW-U18A questions by
Malcolm H
I have had this burner for a couple of years and am becoming increasingly
suspicious that it is faulty. It appears to write to DVD+R blanks reliably,
but video written to DVD-R blanks frequently plays back erratically with the
picture glitching and freezing. Both types of blank media are TDK.
Has anybody else experienced this problem?
Is a firmware/driver upgrade likely to help?
If I...

| | Digital videocam recommendations by
inquisitor
I'm in the market for a relatively inexpensive digital video camera (under
$500 US). I've heard quite a bit about Canon, and am trying to figure out
the difference between their ZR line (200, 300 & 400) and their Elura line
(85, 80). The Eluras use a combo of miniDV Tape and SD Memory Card (the ZRs
use only mini DV tape), and the Eluras use Secure Digital and Multimedia
cards while the ZRs only...
