Sony and HD downsampling by John Russell
Sony are abandoning the use of the downsampling trigger on recorded HD disks when HD players are connected to non-copy protected displays in the short term. Evidently the system is too simple, it's all or nothing. No one considered that a significant number of early HD adopters would not have the copy protected interface, and these the users expected to buy HD/Blue Ray players for HD...

old camcorder magazines by Rebekah
Would anyone be willing to part with their old camcorder magazines (Which Camcorder or What Camcorder)? I've contacted the publisher and they don't keep back issues. Any magazines 3 years or older would be very helpful for our research. Thanks! Rebekah Own a camcorder? Please fill out our survey: www.camcordersurvey.co.uk

Swap LPCM with AC3 by G Hardy
Hi, all. Is there a quick and dirty way to replace a LPCM audio track with AC3? I made the mistake of burning the discs with audio straight from the camera and I'm having a problem with the bitrate being too high in parts. I've split out the audio and turned it into an AC3 file (saving a gig of disc space in the process) but I'm stuck as to how to get it back into the VOBs without reauthoring...

Explaining DVD to a newbie? by John
Hi. I just wondered if anyone can help me? I am trying to write a small email for my father to explain DVD to him in very simple terms. He has recently bought a combination VHS/DVD Player from a well known large place selling goods like this in the UK. It was not what he wanted though and I believe that either the salesperson pulled a fast one on him and sold him the wrong thing, or he just...

Technical info on MPEG and H.26* Encoding? by Monkee
Hi Group, Sorry that this is a bit off topic, I haven't been able to find a specific group for this sort of question. I was hoping there might be someone who could point me in the direction of some good technical information around the subject of MPEG (2 and 4) and H.26* encoding... I have found a wealth of information regarding MPEG encoding and decoding

Tape brands vs MiniDV cam brands by Oldish sod
"Au" wrote in message ... I have to recommend a MiniDV camera to a friend, and whilst I always stick to a brand that I trust - has a very low failure rate for me, I would like to know if buying a different brand would make a huge difference. I am going to spec a Sony (spit) MiniDV camera, and I know Sony make...

?Firewire video monitored through camera lens. Possible? by neil f
I'm not familiar with DV camcorders and firewire, but what I'd ideally like to be able to do is use the camera like a lens on the end of a PC firewire connection, just as I have been able to do in the past with analogue video using my camera's A/V port. With my old VHSc camera the A/V lead supplied a video output to my PC for frame grabbing regardless of whether the mode was 'Camera' or...

DVD-R/RW v DVD+R/RW by ivan
For the last couple of years I've been making DVDs using my LG GSA-4040B DVD writer, and because of one or two negative comments I had read about DVD-R/RW I've tended to stick with DVD+R/RW. However for some strange reason, many of the usual outlets in my area recently now seem to be stocking predominantly DVD-R/RW, so as my burner can handle these I decided to give some a try. The results so...

Artifacts in deinterlaced DV video by Mike Playle
I'm seeing some ugly artifacts when I try to deinterlace video clips recorded on a PAL MiniDV camera. I think the easiest way to explain them is to show an example. Here's an image taken from a problematic clip: http://www.newdawn.uklinux.net/original.png Deinterlacing this image results in these two fields:

Best sound prog to sync audio to video? by neil f
I have a number of mute AVI DV captures from Super 8 varying from 3 to 20 minutes in length. The lip-sync audio tracks from the films had to be captured separately. I'm using Premiere 6 which only has simple sound tweaking capabilities. The audio tracks need a number of special treatments such as time compression/expansion to return them to proper lip-sync with the frame-adjusted video and...

Help - cropped footage when played on TV by Bev
I have edited some camcorder footage via Cyberlink PowerDirector Express and burnt it onto a DVD. When the DVD is played on the computer the date that I have super imposed onto the footage (via titles) on the bottom right corner is there and can be seen. But when the DVD is played on the TV on a normal DVD player the date is only half visable i.e. the bottom half of the writing is missing and...

Problem with Sony DCR-TRV14e by Spete
I've got a problem with a digital camera I just sold. The seller has seen the problem, so knows what's going on. Problem: The camera shows wide stripes on the lcd screen, at least the first few seconds when you start to record. They seem to disappear after a while. The stripes are grey in color. When I capture the images, the stripes are also visible. Is this a case of cleaning the heads and...
