| | MS Movie Maker v. Premier Elements by
Grumps
I was extolling the virtues of Elements to a colleague today, and he asked
if MM could also do the same.
Well, is there a comparison chart that shows what each can do? Simple DVD
authoring; capture from DV, scene edit, add music, titles and chapters.

| | Dual Layer and stand alone DVD players by
John Russell
Have just tried authoring to DVD+R DL and neither of my stand alone DVD
players will play them. Both players are happy with virtually all DVD+-R(W)
I chuck at them. My PC dvd drives recognise the recordings as DVD-Video. Has
anyone been successful playing dual layer recordings on their dvd players?

| | How much space does DV take up on a Computer? by
John
I have some MiniDV tapes of home movies that I'd like to get onto my
computer to edit before I burn a couple of DVDs to give family members
as gifts for Birthdays and Christmas etc.
I am just wondering approximately how much space in GB would a 1 hour
MiniDV tape take up on my system?
Cheers

| | Video to PC by
Margaret Willmer
I have just discovered (oh dear I hear you all say) that video capture
is possible straight from the camera without having to record a tape
first. That means I can have a go at capturing direct from 8mm cine film.
But, how long can a firewire cable be? I want to set the camera and
cine projector a few metres away from the PC. I've found 4.5 metre
cables advertised is this as long as they...

| | Writing DVD's from camcorder by
Ashnook
.... having got my camcorder (and old sony camcorder) recordings onto my
pc and edited them I now want to view them on my dvd player connected to
my TV. The player is a warfdale dvd 750.
If I write a cd (using Nero 6) I can view them on the dvd player but if
i write a dvd (dvd+r) then warfdale does not recognise the dvd.
so, what do I need to do (answers on a postcard to ...)?
Should I be...

| | S-video/S-VHS by
Marc Down
Sorry to appear clueless, but is their any difference in the cables used for
S-Video & S-VHS?
I want to transfer some video footage onto the PC via an S-Video feed (my
other choice is composite) and have tried three cables that have the
mini-DIN plugs on the end, without success.
Two of the cables are cheap 'no name' ones, one is a better quality home
theatre cable that has 'S-VHS' marked...

| | How long to render? by
Jim McLean
Dear all, hope you can help.
I have a DV camcorder - new, not brilliant stuff, a modest canon mvx460. I
have quite a powerful pc with plenty of hard disk space.
My problem is that the length of time it takes to render a video. After I
copy my 60 minutes of home video onto the pc and edit this using say, Nero,
or Videoworks or the package that came with the camera, I find that once I
get...

| | which camcorder? by
Andy
I will be buying my first digital camcorder soon.
I have been checking various models on the internet and narrowed it down to
two camcorders which are within my budget.
1. Panasonic NV GS300

and
2. Canon MVX250i.

| | Blur/Flicker on recorded DVD by
NitrousDigital@gmail.com
I recently created a movie using Adobe Premiere 6.0 and exported the
movie in DVD Mpeg format using Canopus ProCoder. The original footage
was edited in Pinnacle DV AVI format. The Mpeg was then loaded into
Nero Vision 4 for DVD authoring.
The problem I am seeing is that when I record the movie to a DVD and
view it on a TV, anytime the camera moves the image appears to
flicker/blur. At first I...

| | trouble getting dv in from camcorder detected by
John
I just wondered if anyone else has trouble getting their camcorder
recognised when they are connecting it to their computer with the DV
cable?
I've always found it to be really temperamental and a lot of the time
it simply doesn't detect it.
I have a 1394 port on the front of my computer on the Sound Blaster
bay, and there is also one on the back.

Just D
All,
I'm the lucky owner of GL2, but I'd like to make my wife a gift buying
another one, simple, hopefully cheap but convenient and relatively good
camcorder, because she doesn't want even to touch this semi-pro one. :) I
found a few simple ones in the nearest store, like:
JVC GRD 372 US (for 280 USD)
Panasonic PVGS36 (for 300 USD)

Jerry,
Dmitri, how many times are you going to ask the same question,
changing the subject line isn't going to get you any more answers
(indeed such behaviour might get you less), people will either be
able to help you or not the first time around...
Please don't be so impatient, remember that replying to Usenet is
voluntary! :~)

| | Final Cut Pro question by
Luis Ortega
Does FCP come with any additional apps that allow you to create loop music
tracks or sound effect tracks?
I am familiar with Premiere Pro and for that I use things like acid style to
create my own music or sound effect tracks to add to the Premiere timeline,
but I thought that FCP had some additional apps that did this as well.
Thanks for any advice.

| | Sony handycam touch screen by
Dean
I have a Sony DCR-HC30 which I use on average once or month. On last few
occasions I'm finding the touch screen either doesn't work at all or the
onscreen buttons are hit and miss. Things improve if I recalibrate the
touch screen. Is this normal due to the level of (dis)use?
Thanks for any advice.

| | selling your video's ?? by
Perrush
Hi,
I myself am a submitter of photo's to shutterstock. And it isn't that bad
at all (despite what people would say)
Lately they allow video's to be submitted too. Each video sells around $99
of which you get 30%. That's a much better deal than the one we
(photographers) get. :-(((
Anyway, if you have some video's just laying around. Maybe you could make

| | Suggestions for £350ish DVD Camcorder? by
Fred Finisterre
With 16:9 widescreen and reasonably good optical zoom. Ease of use a
bonus. And of course good picture quality. Perhaps with Night Recording
mode.
Not bothered about memory card/still photography.
What do people like?
Cheers,
