Hi all, I do not wish to appear dim, but can someone please point me in
the direction of an article, or tell me what a codec is? Why I might need
to change mine? and are there any advantages to doing so?
I have a decent camcorder ( Canon XM1), powerful pc ( Athlon 2200, 512mb
Ram plenty of hard drive space running Win XP, with firewire connection via
my SB Audigy card) I have Premiere...

We are talking about what / domestic / DV cameras are suitable for
broadcast, not if the DV format is.
But our discussion veered of towards the compressed format of DV!!!

NTSC is 30 frames at 720x480. PAL is 25 at 720x576. ie. same data
rate
and DV is just a data stream. Work it out for yourself. :-)
