Can the dual and quad core xeons be used to build PCs or are they just for use on Macs? Which motherboards would support them? Thanks for any advice.

Is FCP studio worth switching to? by Luis Ortega
I value the advice that I have been given here on many occasions. I recently took a course on Final Cut Pro 5 and I was very impressed by what I saw. The studio version includes a music creation program and a special effects program that some say is comparable to After Effects, plus a dvd creation program and some sort of file format converter, which I think is called Compressor.. My current...

Installing Win XP on a Mac by Luis Ortega
I have my Windows XP Pro installation disk which includes service pack 1, but I read that to install Windows XP on a Mac Pro you need to have a Windows disk that includes service pack 2. I read somewhere else that you can create a Windows installation disk that includes service pack 2 so that you can install Windows and not have to waste the time updating to service pack 2, but I don't...

Expanding a Mac Pro by Luis Ortega
I want to get a Mac Pro desktop and use FCP Studio 2, but all of my previous experience is on the PC side of computing. I normally build my own computers and have a fair amount of experience doing so, but I read that Macs are generally bought as is and should not be tampered with. I would appreciate some advice on what I can and can't do with a new Mac Pro. On a new Mac Pro that has two 2.66...

Photobucket by ivan
I wonder if someone can help. I have recently subscribed to photobucket, thinking that it would be an extremely quick and simple way of say loading 20 photos up onto a Web page so that they could be seen by friends and family. However no matter how I have tried tried to configure it, all I can seem to achieve is ending up with a list of urls, which have to be clicked on individually to produce a...

Laptop DVD writers by G Hardy
Do they conform to a standard when it comes to dimensions? Is there anything I need to be wary of if I want to replace the existing writer in my laptop? The current model is a Philips SDVD8820 - and it's a PoS. I'm looking at replacing it with a Pioneer or NEC.

VARIOUS ARTISTS "Seedmouth" CD by seed
VARIOUS ARTISTS "Seedmouth" CD (1996, Cold Spring # CSR12) Dark ambient always had quite a strict definition, which was enough for many bands and solo-projects of musicians worldwide. Minimalistic and free from pronounced details or emotional outbursts, it carries a lot of the hypnotic effects, created due to monotonous sonority

Windows Media DRM by Alasdair
I downloaded a TV documentary from the Internet which I saved as a ..wmv file. When I tried to play it, it said it was DRM protected. It seems stupid that if I had recorded the documentary when it was broadcast, there would have been no problem but because I missed it and downloaded it later, I am having all this hassle. Any suggestions, folks? -- Alasdair.

VCR Replacement Question by Dave
Please forgive me if this is the wrong place to ask this question, and kindly point me to the right place. I have an elderly VCR which I am intending to replace, as it's starting to give problems occasionally. I plan to buy a DVD Recorder, but I'm being pushed towards one combined with a VCR. Since I only want to keep the VCR to play the tapes I've already got, this seems like a waste of...
