Making my own DVDs from VHS by Chris Rogers
Hi All, I am just starting out in the world of DVD making, having just been given a DVD writer as a Birthday present. I am trying to convert my VHS video collection onto DVDs to save on storage space. I got hold of a Pinnacle Linx USB video capture device on eBay which I am using to capture video. The problem I have is that the DVDs I'm

A Lesson learned! by Dave Hall
Since I bought my Canon DV600i last Spring I have been using Panasonic tapes. I was aware of the horror stories from members of this ng but believed that as long as I stayed with one make, I'd stand a better chance of keeping my heads clean. Wrong!! I have had to use a head cleaner tape about 5 times since Autumn and now can't trust that the video that I am shooting will not be broken. I had an...

TiVo type box recommendations by gravesmark@hotmail.com
Hi, I'm looking for a TiVo type digital video recorder to use with my TV (the type where you can also "pause" and "fast-forward" live TV etc.) I'd like to do this with my freeview channels also, but my digital TV has a built in decoder (from the days of On-Digital). Does this mean I would have to buy an external decoder as well so I can connect the output to the recorder? Either way can anyone...

Firewire Question, Card or Motherboard better? by Tony Morgan
In message , rg writes Is there any difference in performance between a firewire pci card and a motherboard with firewire capability built in? In theory no. However some people have trouble with on-board firewire (I did, and just installed a £20 firewire card (they're cheaper now) - which immediately fixed things). -- Tony Morgan "In theory,...

WTD: 2.0" TFT LCD (Sanyo) for HP Photosmart 850 digi camera + 3.0" for Sony video cam. by Jack
I'll also buy a broken camera with working display if it is 2.0" Looks like most digi cameras use Sanyo LCD panels. Also need new LCD for a Sony TRV-59 video camera. It's a 3" Casio panel. Broken camera with working LCD is also accepted. Thanks,

VX2000 car charger by Trev Worsey
Hi there, I shoot surf films and I am heading out on a surf/camping trip to Feurtaventura in March. I have only recently purchased the VX2000 and love it, amazing picture, now most of the trip will be away from mains electricity. Bearing in mind that I am still recovering from the cost of the VX2000 and 960 batteries what is the cheapest way to charge the beast through a car charger. I am in...

Sony F380E (Video8) Camcorder Viewfinder Question by 01
Picked one of these up dirt cheap recently without any tapes. Works fine as far as I can tell except: No image on the viewfinder (admittedly I can't record as there is no tape in there). Is the CCD buggered or is this how this kind of camcorder (or indeed any kind) operates, not displaying what the CCD 'sees' unless it is actually recording to tape? The auto-focus *seems* to be working, or...

Roxio Easy CD & DVD Creator by Tony Morgan
I've been helping out burning DVD-R's on a friend's machine using Roxio Easy CD & DVD Creator (from MPEG-2 AVIs). I'm very impressed. Quality is good. Prepare/burn times are good (1h 30m in about 2 hours). Also we got a 2 hour video on a DVD-R (compared with using either DVD Architect or DVD Workshop which both max out at about 1h 25min unless I **** about first, reducing the bit rate to get...

REPLACEMENT BATTERIES by Dave Brown
As previously mentioned I have just purchased a JVC GR-D50EK Camcorder. The battery supplied is Part No. BN-408U which only allows for just over 1hour of recording. I would like to purchase a BN-416U and have found a number of sites which supply "Generic" replacements. My question is , are these Generic replacements OK to use and compatible with the camcorder?

ABC VideoRoll still-to-video cross-fade problem by Seppo Sipilä
Hi! Anyone out there familiar with ABC VideoRoll 2.5 build 70? I have a problem: 1) I import a jpeg image into layer A, set its duration to 4 sec 2) I import a 15-sec mpeg video clip into layer A after the still image 3) I move the video clip to 2-sec overlap with the still image 4) I see a cross-fade transition symbol between the still and the clip, and its parameters are fine (0% to 100%,...

Studio DV Moviebox by Stuart Walker
Has anyone seen any units similar to this, at a more reasonable cost. As it is Pinnacle branded and comes with a full version of Studio 9 it costs a bit too much. http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00008UZMQ/ref=sr_aps_software_1_1/202-6725738-3839834 I have also seen a more basic unit in PC World (sorry for swearing) called Studio AV/DV Deluxe but again you are paying for...

Sony RM-VD1 remote control by Some
Hi All, Is there anyone in this forum who uses this remote control from Sony with a Sony camcorder? I would love to know if it can power up and power down the camcorder in "CAMERA" mode? I bought a KLR Lanc remote controller because they claimed it could do so. But unfortunately it could not power up my camcoreder after I powered it down (with the remote) everything else was working with...

Miro XL by Theodore Masterton
I have been climbing up the learning curse with my Pinnacle PCTV, learning the trade-offs between WMF, MPEG, DV, etc. Last night I finally noticed some alternative codecs in the PCTV listing for recording broadcasts -- I tried MIRO XL, and was amazed at the quality of the recording picture, and the fact that it did not introduce the PCI bandwide Lines, dropped frames, etc on my 1100 mhz Athlon. ...
