Buying DV Cam from Japan - A few questions by J Jones
Hi, I am going to Japan shortly and am wanting to buy the SONY DCR-PC105. If anyone could help me out on the following points I would be grateful:- 1) Would it be compatibile with the UK? e.g. in picture format, power supply, etc. What would be the difference between the japanese version and the uk version?

Choosing a Sony camcorder, comments appreciated by theman@themiddle.com
I am just about to buy my first digital camcorder, and have narrowed the choice down to Sony, because they use a 7mm CCD rather than the 4.2mm of other manufacturers. I believe that will help the dynamic range of the camera. Any comments on the truth of this concept? Looking than at the choice, I have TRY14, 19, 22 or 33. I have rejected the 14 as it is DV out only, the 19 is in/out but...

Can i resize an AVI for fullscreen? by ©®
I have an AVI file that i use as a screensaver but when I choose FullScreen on the screensaver (http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/experiences/downloads/create_powerto y.asp) the avi does not fit the screen. So I am wondering how I would go about making the AVI fit the screen (1024x768). Ideas anyone? BTW - It is the Bliss "moving" screensaver but instead of using the Bliss.scr I am using the...

JVC Camcorder MiniDV GR-DX25E ? by Niels Skov
I'm considering buying a JVC Camcorder MiniDV GR-DX25E especially because of its design, size and price. What about the picture quality? Is it as good as its design or is the money better spend on a Sony (19 or 33)? Many Thanks

Batteries by Linedancer
I have been looking online to buy an extra battery for our Panasonic NVDS digital camcorder, all the ones I have seen are not the genuine Panasonic ones, will it be alright to use a compatible one, or should I go to Jessops or somewhere and buy thePanasonic one at £39.99 for a 1.5 hr one ? We have only had the camcorder for three days, so are newbies in the field of digital camcorders, they are...

Digital Camcorder for Race Car? by John Lorimer
Don't know if this is the right group for this question, but a photgraphy student in one of my classes wants to mount a digital video camera in a small race car. Anyone have any ideas as to what would be the best choice given the vibration of the car? He needs about 45 minutes of recording time and finds that analog video doesn't work well. Any ideas appreciated.

Digital Camera for Race Car by John Lorimer
Sorry about not being very specific with my question. The question is what digital camcorder is the best choice for filming the track ahead of the race car from the driver's perspective. Problem has been with the tracking of analog camera equip and the need for lengthy recording if digital camera is used. Thanks for the advice on mounting as that will be helpful as well. John Lorimer

Product acronyms by Dave R
Anyone know what the acronyms/model numbers mean on Sony cams? I'm guessing that the DCR means Digital CameRa or CamcordeR, but what about PCx and TRV? The -DVD branch I can guess :-)

Capturing frames as images ! How? (can vegas 4 do it) by Trev Worsey
Simple question, I hope there is a simple answer. I have captured my DV footage through vegas 4 and want to be able to capture a series of frames and output them as jpeg images. I have footage of some skate board moves and want to get a series of stoped frames. Can this be done in vegas, in the preview panel the 'save as image' is not clickable. Or is there another package that I would...

Real stereo sound! by Sosumi
After trying the internal microphone on my Panasonic camcorder, I was very dissapointed; hardly anything was 'reasonable'. OK, so I bought I stereo electret microphone that I could afford: Vivanco for 48 euro. Technically spoken it was stereo, practically not at all. Since I didn't want to spend a lot of money (Sony and some other brands go for 150 - 500 euro), I decided to pick up my old hobby...

Pinnacle 8 sound problem by Margaret Willmer
I hope this is not a FAQ but is there anyone who could suggest why, when rendering, Pinnacle 8 suddenly stops picking up the sound. We have assembled a movie and are outputing to tape (we've done it before with no problems). The first part of the new tape has the sound track but then it just stops. There is sound in the project. I also renedered it to an AVI and had the same problem. I tried...

Crackly areas of sound in video... by Tom
....Hello folks Creating video means dealing with the sound that comes with them and during my video editing process I usually export the audio and normalise it/apply compression (dynamic processing in CEP2) filters. Some loud audio, however, yields a cackling noise. Even when it's normalised, these louder parts of the track retain the crackle. I'm guessing it was captured/recorded as such as...

To change the subject :-) by Laurence Payne
All this willy-waving about how much "professional" technical knowledge we've managed to pick up is great fun :-) But I can't remember the last time someone said: "Hey! I just made this great video! Let me tell you about it!". Tony, Jerry, Malcolm, and the rest of you - so what have you been up to? Forget what camera you used, what format you shot on, what program you edited in. What was...

Premiere to tape - am I being a DV divvy? by Jake
When I get home this evening I've got to go and RTFM, but in the mean time... I want to archive my edited video back to DV tape so I can wipe it off my hard drive. I imported the clips into Premiere, stuck them all together on the timeline with a few seconds of blank video in between then exported the timeline to tape. The camera (Sony DCR-PC120E) LCD was set to VCR and the display showed...
