Windows Media DRM by Alasdair
I downloaded a TV documentary from the Internet which I saved as a ..wmv file. When I tried to play it, it said it was DRM protected. It seems stupid that if I had recorded the documentary when it was broadcast, there would have been no problem but because I missed it and downloaded it later, I am having all this hassle. Any suggestions, folks? -- Alasdair.

VCR Replacement Question by Dave
Please forgive me if this is the wrong place to ask this question, and kindly point me to the right place. I have an elderly VCR which I am intending to replace, as it's starting to give problems occasionally. I plan to buy a DVD Recorder, but I'm being pushed towards one combined with a VCR. Since I only want to keep the VCR to play the tapes I've already got, this seems like a waste of...

Hiring a Filmographer by John
Just out of interest, I wondered how much it would probably cost to hire a filmographer (don't know if that is the correct descriptor?) to film a wedding perhaps in Hi-Def mini-dv format? I was thinking of arranging this as a gift (it's my sister getting married) but I probably wouldn't be able to afford anyway. When I eventually settle down and get married I would definitely have my own...

Which microphone for a JVC GR DV4000? by Mikkel Z. Herold
I have a JVC GR DV4000 and I want to get an external mic. The original MZ-V5 or MZ-V3 are probably the best choice, but they are a bit hard to come by and also perhaps a bit over my budget, so I was wondering if it is possible to get a generic microphone that will fit in the shoe - and if so, which is the best buy? Two questions about my Sony Handycam DCR-TRV245E by Beemer
Yesterday I bought a used Sony DCR-TV245E. Question 1 - Page 79 of the manual says In the wide mode: The Steadyshot does not work. If you set the wide mode described below in the menu settings when the Steadyshot is working, the indicator flashes and the Steadyshot does not function 16:9 WIDE to ON

avi files and common video/audio files - AGAIN by aniramca@yahoo.com
This is again a question about avi files. I never thought that it is another one of such messy thing that we created. I tried to open an avi file in my PC using different versions of Windows Media Players, and they did not recognized it. When I checked the internet, I found out that there are different versions of avi which are exceptable to different version of computers. What a mess. It is...

Camcorders with "Pass-Through" by Bill
I have been pointed to this newsgroup with this question. Please have pity on a beginner. What I'm trying to do is to take in video and audio from a VHS video and record it straight into a PC. If that works, I have another project for which I'd like to take in the video via the s-video input on the camcorder and audio via the composite input and interleave these within the camcorder then...

Hard Drive vs Mini DV by mike
In terms of picture quality, can the cheapest HD (£300) match budget DVs (£200) -indoor and out, -good and low light? or is it up to individual taste? Secondly as HD camcorders use USB, does this mean there is no loss of quality when transfered to PC for editing?

Premiere Elements 3 by Margaret Willmer
I ave a few tapes taken of a play with no break. 3 for each act over an hour each. I can't find an option in Premiere Elements 3 to force a new avi every x minutes when capturing from a camcorder. I have a feeling there is one in Pinnacle but I don't want to load that onto my PC as it used to muck up my settings. I have found some software on the web to split the file after capture but I...
