| "Geoff" wrote in message ... Hi, I'm about to replace an old Canon MV300i DV camcorder and would appreciate any feedback from you people. I really liked the Canon until it just packed up and died (as a result of a close encounter with a wooden floor at home) a couple of weeks ago and I'm told is uneconomical to repair. As a result I now have a fist full of Jessops vouchers to fund a replacement. I would appreciate any comments on a possible replacement. Must have DV in and would like analogue to digital pass through as well. I want to stay clear of Micro MV. The direct equivalent is the Canon MV600i with 18X optical zoom - should I pay a bit more and get the MV650i with 22X zoom and a card/still picture facility (I have a Canon S45 digital camera, so don't really need the still photo capability). If I look at other manufacturers, should I consider the Panasonic NVGS50, or go all out and something like the Panasonic NVGS70 with 3 CCD's. Can't find much in the way of reviews on the Pana NVGS70 - any one got one?? What is it like?? Any thoughts on the Sony's, for example the TRV33 or PC105?? Any advice gratefully received. Geoff I have the Canon MV600i and I wish I'd got the 650i so I could use the memory card/still facility. I also have a Canon A40 digital camera but the extra zoom on the DV camera would be useful for some close ups. The motor noise is picked up by the mic but, like you, I edit it out with voice over or background music. I have also bought a couple of cheap microphones from Maplin. One is a stereo mic and the other is a tie-clip mic which I can clip onto the carrying strap if I ever need to record total silence or give a commentary. I also intend to use it to record the noise that my badgers make when they eat. I shall pass the cable through the window and clip it on their food bowl. -- Dave Hall, Llangwm, Pembrokeshire. | "Geoff" wrote in message ... My wife has got her eye on a Canon MV6iMC, I think it's a bit too small though?? Been and had a look at a Sony TRV22 - seemed nice, any thoughts?? For only a few bucks more, you can get the TRV38 which has a larger body, 3.5 inch LCD, DV-in enabled, and manual focus ring, to name a few of the features. |

Someone posting here a few months back regretted getting a mv6i because of its terrible picture in low light. So you should probably avoid. TRV22 is not a bad cam. E.' |

That, I don't know. It is here in the States. |

So why would you suggest a US model to someone asking in to a UK newsgroup? Surely you know that model numbers vary from region to region. For obvious reason like NTSC/PAL differences. loz |

For obvious reason like NTSC/PAL differences. On the possibility that it IS sold over there. And if it is, it would most likely be in PAL format. And as such would be a different model then wouldnt it? Some models are offered in both countries, others are not. I don't know which are. I merely mentioned a model I thought might be available. DO YOU know which models are available in both countries? Well I DO know that NTSC and PAL models do not share the same model number Also, there are other posters from US here not just limeys. Got it? Got what? Loz |
