Is there any automatic power off mode on the TRV33? I keep forgetting
to turn the camcorder off and then find the battery run down. My old
Sony Hi8 powered off automatically after 5 minutes of non use. There
must be a setting somewhere on the machine - but I can't find anything
in the manual.

Alternatively is there a TRV33 specific forum I can ask in?

It shouldn't do this unless either:

1. You have no tape in the camcorder, or

2. When in CAMERA mode you haven't pressed the Rec button at
the end of the last shot (thus switching it to Standby). In other
words, you're leaving it switched on in Record mode.

If your camcorder isn't switching off from the Standby after about 5
minutes then I'd suggest that you take it back and exchange it.
