In practice it will depend on the model number of each of the camcorders. On the DV cam you are looking for the 'analogue in' capability. Not all DV cams have this. If you *don't* have this capability then it is still possible, but requires extra kit. In all the above I assume you are talking about 8mm *tape* camcorder, what gives me pause is your use of 'film' near the end of the question! Regards, Harry. |

FX800 appears to be the model number of a laptop! Regards, Harry. |

The 8mm camcorder I currently have is a Sony FX800 I can personally confirm that you can do this with the TRV33. You need to use the S-video and audio *or* video and audio to cross-connect, and you must set up your menu system on the TRV33 to accept analogue-in. I *think* that the menu selection is A/V--DV OUT with the power switch at VCR. If both camcorders are Sonys and both have a LANC socket, you can also use that so that when you switch your miniDV camcorder to REC the other one automatically switches to PLAY. This isn't absolutely necessary, but it's a neat and convenient Sony trick :-) -- Tony Morgan http://www.camcord.info |

| I simply want to connect my existing 8mm camcorder to a new DV camcorder to transfer what is on 8mm tape to DV. Is this possible? If so, is it just a lead I need? Many thanks. | In message , HA writes I particularly like the Canon 6iMC though. Can the Canon and Sony FX 500 be connected in this way? Someone else will have to confirm this, since I have no experience of that cam - and I won't confirm something that I don't know to be true :-) -- Tony Morgan http://www.camcord.info |
