Default Canon MV400 advice please

Hi,

I'm a complete noob in the world of camcorderism but I'm off to
Vancouver soon and thought it would be nice to record the visit.
Someone where I work is selling a Canon MV400(not i) for £250 though I
think I can get them down to £225..anyway, I digress..

My main problem is finding information on this kit, every possible
permutation of searching via google/ask/yahoo/av just hammers me with
hits for 'best deals' and 'buy now' and even the canon website, by
their own admission, no longer carries info about it. So, I thought
I'd try my luck with the people's experts in this newsgroup!

I don't know if I need DV-in or not...basically I'm going record,
transfer to PC, burn a CD...is that possible with the MV400 and a
firewire port? What format can it be recorded in and burnt to CD in?

Sorry to be so vague, but I'm lost in a world of CCDS and off-colour
hues and frankly don't where to start...any start-up website
recommendations would be useful, but mainly I'm after info on the
MV400 and if you guys think the price is worth it.

Many thanks

Darren.

Now, I'm going to knock a few regulars over with a feather in saying this
(!) but, can I suggest you have a look at Tony Morgan's site -

I won' even attempt to delve into the background to your private joke
here, but the site looks very useful, so many thanks!

Would still welcome any opinions on the MV400 if someone would be so
kind

Darren

I'm very happy with my 400i. I save my edited footage back to DV which is
why I bought the dv in. If you are convinved you don't want i then I think
it is a good sized cam with excellent image quality. A friend just bought a
630i from Dixons for £399, so I would suggest an absolute max price of £200
for what is a 3 year old camera.

Rod
