Tonys a damn good source of information, he doesnt suffer fools easily
mate, and you've just been a witness to it.. Just let it go and be
thnakful he's offered you some advice.. no other ****er has been able
to, and you are just throwing it in his face now.

Tony doesnt 'presume' which is hard to grasp as i presume EVERYTHING
.

If you say AVI he isnt gonna guess DV-AVI like the majority of us as
he could be giving misleading information if it were wrong.

Just my view on the whole charade

No. Instead of gently educating the questioner, he rants for a page
at the stupidity of asking an uninformed question.

Agreed. Most of us are here to LEARN not be berated for our "ignorance".
Fortunately, there are many more patient instructors on USENET than there
are of Mr. Morgan's type. Some here have mentioned about all the advice and
help Mr. Morgan has provided. While that may be true, it shouldn't be
offered at the expense of a person's dignity. I, personally, would much
rather do without an answer to my question than to have it answered and be
belittled by Mr. Morgan or anyone else for asking what is obvious to HIM.
"You reap what you sow" as the saying goes. And Mr. Morgan will surely get
his day.

Then maybe your answer is easy - just killfile me :-)

That's one great thing about freedom of speech. It works both ways.
Those listening can simply walk away and choose not to listen.

I think this is an important point. On more than one occasion I have had my
integrity openly questioned by Tony simply because he believed I had my
facts wrong. When subsequent posts proved him wrong did he apologise or
even admit his mistake? No. Tony, it is this sort of attitude that
undermines all the genuinely good advice that you give and this is why
people get upset with you.

To be fair he only replied with a few lines asking what the OP meant
when he said AVI, the OP then got a bee in his bonnet and never told
him.. so i think its unfair that this guy is hurling abuse at him now
due to his own stubborness..

Ive had a few run-ins with Tony but he's offered nothing but help for
me despite having arguments, so ive no reason to slag him off, this is
a help group not a mothers meeting group So more Tony's and less
self pitiers ))

Tony - you don't frequent the Photoshop groups using the name "mike"
by any chance? :-)

Yes. That wasn't actually one of his bad ones :-)

See the current master/slave thread for Tony ranting at a (very
marginally) imprecise question. And, after 5 posts, he's still
justifying his attitude but hasn't offered any useful advice.

What does he do, anyway? Anyone know? His attitude is "President of
the Camera Club", but he's knowledgable about equipment. Perhaps he's
got a shop?

OK, just answered my own question. He's got a website.

I first crossed swords with Tony quite recently in the "Alternatives
to Studio 8" thread, when he took strong exception to my fondness for
auto scene-splitting in a video editing program.

Here's a quote from his web site:

Editing Software
I've tried a few. I started with Ulead's Studio 5 and didn't like it,
moving on to Pinnacle's Studio 7. I upgraded to Version 8 but found it
very buggy. I then tried Premiere but found the capture mechanism led
to considerable work in splitting the clips, so I abandoned it.

:-)

PS. To follow my own principle of always trying to append something
useful to a rant, I'd just remind Premiere users that a simple
external utility, Scenealyzer, will do your scene-splitting. Yes,
it's a small chore. Yes, it's ridiculous that it's not an option in
Premiere. But it's there if you want it.

I agree with Tony that Vegas 4 blows Premiere out of the water. Maybe
the new Premiere will be up-to-speed.

Yes, Premiere Pro is supposed to offer scene detection on capture. Is it
too little too late though? Those that want it have perhaps already moved
on to something else.
