Default Sony DCRTRV14 - how to get clips from tape to PC!

hello,

I am asking this on behalf of a friend who just bought the Sony
DCRTRV14 MiniDV digital camcorder. He wants to know if you can
transfer footage you have recorded on the tape to your PC via USB. It
seems that you can do "live streaming" from the camera to the PC i.e.
it kind of acts like a webcam but can you record some video onto tape
then transfer this later to you PC via the USB connection or must you
use some sort of "video input" connection on your PCs VGA card?

thanks for any help :-)

You can use USB video streaming - use something like Windows Movie Maker
(free from Microsoft for Windows XP only), or the software that came
with the camera.

I've been using USB streaming for a few weeks, but now I've switched to
FireWire - bloody Hell what a difference. The quality with FireWire is
incredible when compared to the low-resolution USB. It can run to 1GB
per minute though!

I've bought my FireWire cables from http://www.ebuyer.com/ and a
FireWire card from http://www.dabs.com/

EBuyer:
http://tinyurl.com/2pd5r - 6/4 pin FireWire cable £1.51
http://tinyurl.com/2z3f2 - 4/4 pin FireWire cable £4.55

Dabs:
http://tinyurl.com/22juj - FireWire card £10.50

Price include VAT but not delivery.

SVCD quality when burnt using Nero is fantastic.

If you get the Pinnacle Studio DV Digital Pack from www.dabs.com (quicklinx
248SWS) for 50 quid then you get 1394 interface card, cable, a DV tape, 10 x
CDR's and software. Everything you need.

Phenomenal deal.
