| First of all I'm a total newbie at capturing as you will soon seen I would like to be able to capture from my vcr to my pc. I've received a advc 100 today and I have conected it to a firewire card in my pc. I have conected my vcr to it via a scart in the vcr to a s-video and a l&r audio in conections (red& white) these are all in the front panel of the advc. The switches on the bottom are all off except switch 1 which is set to pal on. The blue light on the front is on analog-in I have tried to capture using Premiere Pro by playing a video and then going to file/capture I don't see a preview (dont know if I should or not) and when I press record and then stop after a while it says "recorder captured no frames" I've put a screen grab of the settings at the folowing site http://www.geocities.com/stormcrowuk/ Any advice would be greatly appreciated I have also tried studio 8 but no luck there either. Might be worth trying another IEEE1394 card - oh and make sure it is the / second / PCI slot down from the AGP slot (if fitted) and not the first, which AIUI should be left free. |

| you might want to try it with only the s-video cable connected, remove the phono cable (red white) from the advc100. try connecting via the three phono cable inputs on the advc100 is the vcr scart an output port? Try and find some video footage with a rectangle on it ie. a message box etc. and measure the aspect ratio ( ie. divide the length by the width ) , capture the footage using the canopus then measuring the aspect ratio of that on the pc screen . Note : the problem only occurs when playing on the pc screen and not when viewing back on a television . In non of the reviews I've seen for the ADVC100 has anyone mentioned this problem (both state side or UK) ! I assumed it was something to do with capturing PAL but don't know for sure . Like I say I can cure the problem by viewing using zoomplayer . What are program are you using to capture via your 1394 ? |

| I got my ADVC 100 back in October & had a few problems getting it going . My source is from the scart out from a video recorder and using the yellow "video in" and the left & right audio connections on the Canopus . The problem in the end it turned out to be the switch on the scart out connection which should have been switched to IN rather than OUT apparently .. This made no sense to me but it worked . Is your PC a Dell ? During my search for a solution there was some reference that some software on the Dell computors conflicts with the Canopus . Occasionally I have to disable & re-enable the firewire port through "control panel / system" to get it to work which isn't ideal but the quality of the captured footage more than makes up for the inconvenience The aspect ratio of the captured footage from the Canopus is incorrect too ( with mine anyway using PAL ) . To get around the problem I'm using zoomplayer which allows you to specify your own aspect ration to overcome this . Hope this helps & good luck with getting it to work . Graham . | I've just read on rec.video.desktop that you got the Canopus working , well done. Do you have the aspect ratio problem too ( ie. the footage appears to be stretched vertically ) or is it just me ? I'm using zoomplayer with an custom aspect ratio of 1.4 : 1 to overcome this . Graham . |

Graham . Hi Graham I've just finished using Premiere Pro to capture The Office xmas episodes from my vcr and they appear to be ok, no problem with the aspect ratio that I can see anyway. The picture appears to be a little darker than the original but that could be because it was recorded on a different vcr, I'm going to attempt to lighten it tonight with Premiere. |
