| Hi Paul , I've got the Canopus set to PAL and am recording to the PC using DVIO . I've recorded footage from a digital camcorder to the PC and the ratio is fine with that so I can only assume the aspect ratio fault lies with the Canopus . I've checked the dipswitches and it's set to PAL ( switch 1 on ) and the rest are set to off . Here's some footage I've saved ( approx 1mb ) http://mysite.freeserve.com/stiggsy/test.avi Taking the dimensions as being the width as the width of the boxes and the height as the overall height of both boxes ( ie . the bottom of the bottom box to the top of the top box ) from the TV set I get the following ( size in mm ) 426 X 268 If you divide the width by the height the ratio of the boxes comes to 1.589 Using Windows media player on my pc I get 216 X 150 = 1.44 Using zoomplayer at 4:3 ratio I get 232 X 152 = 1.526 If I set the custom aspect ratio on zoomplayer to 1.385 : 1 I get 232 X 146 = 1.589 which is the same as the ratio on the TV . I've spent many hours researching and modifying setting but to no avail , is this just me ? Graham . "Paul Harrison" wrote in message ... are you capturing pal footage to editor setup in pal format? could it be the monitor settings you're using? i have had no difficulty with mine with most editor apps. Paul "Jerry." wrote in message ... "Keith Laws" wrote in message ... In article , Jerry. writes In non of the reviews I've seen for the ADVC100 has anyone mentioned this problem (both state side or UK) ! Is it because PC pixels are square and TV ones are not? It will be fine once it is sent back to the TV again. -- Could it be, is this another case of looking good / crap on the computer monitor and looking crap / good on a production monitor or TV screen ? Good idea , I've just tried this and the picture is ok with the same aspect ratio as the original although the picture is in black & white , is this normal ? Err I very much doubt it is ! You're not trying to play out as an NTSC signal are you ?... Nigel Longman has very kindly sent me a link to a site which goes some way to explain the problem although it takes some reading , here's the link if you wish to view http://www.uwasa.fi/~f76998/video/conversion/ Will do. |
