| In article , Martin Cade martin@cade2 003.freeserve.co.uk writes I've tried to get some pictures into Windows Movie Maker via the front firewire port but the software only seems to be set up for "audio only", presumably because there is no video capture card installed? If so, will the PCI card to be fitted do the job? Fellow newcomer here, don't know about your single port jobbie but I fitted a three port firewire card and Movie Maker worked fine, it didn't work at all with the USB option I tried first. I don't have a video capture card installed so I don't think that's an issue, though I may be wrong, my JVC just plugs in and downloads. As to editing software I think it depends on what you want to do, I bought my camcorder for an impending Fjord cruise to the land of my fathers, no, not Wales, Norway. I've tried trial versions of quite a few suites and for what it's worth my opinions as a newbie are thus :- Adobe Premiere - Gave up as too complicated, may well be top stuff for top end editing but not for me, a bit like Photoshop, cracking program if you need it. Ulead Video Studio 6 - This came with my firewire card for free but I wasn't really immersed, don't now why, just wasn't. Pinnacle 7 - a bit naughty here, downloaded a dodgy copy to try out, the picture of the camcorder looks good for you to press the buttons but again I wasn't impressed, I've read that version 8 is out, I'm not tempted. Vegas 4 - A little strange to get used to, difficult even, but for me the best of what I've tried, if you can master the timeline the more you learn the better it gets. The one problem is it's expensive, that being so when I get back from Norway it's the one I'm buying. The experts will no doubt rubbish my post but we've all got to start as complete novices and these are my thought as one. Mike -- Michael Swift We do not regard Englishmen as foreigners. Kirkheaton We look on them only as rather mad Norwegians. Yorkshire Halvard Lange |
