Default Batteries?

I am considering buying a Sony camcorder (probably the TVR 19) How long do
the batteries last. By this I mean should I buy another battery for the
camcorder or would one be OK and just keep it charged.

(TVR is the name of a sports car)
Have just bought the TRV22 , and the first thing I did was to get a decent
battery. The difference it made was surprising. Instead of seeing "dead
battery in 15 minutes" etc., it now reads in the 100s of minutes most of the
time - very reassuring.

So Sony ship their products with crap batteries?

No. There's a whole range of different capacity batteries. All
manufacturers ship their camcorders with the lowest capacity (i.e.
cheapest) battery. Same with memory sticks/memory cards (for both
camcorders and digital still cameras).

Sorry, i was picking up on the statement :
"the first thing I did was to get a decent battery"

not decent = crap, YMMV

So that just shows that Morgan the plonk did not read (or can't

understand
the rational behind) the question....

What's the problem? What Tony said is 100% accurate in my experience. I
remember well enough replacing the tiny supplied battery on my small DV
cam, raising the camera to my eye and bashing my nose with an NP950.

You appear to have underlined something Tx2 said. Why I don't know.

They're not crap (IMHO), they're just low capacity. My camcorder lasts
about an hour on the supplied battery, but with the biggest Sony
battery it supposedly lasts 12 hours.

I remember the first time I used a battery belt, put the camera down and
walked off forgetting I was still attached !...

The question was not "So Sony / make / crap batteries ?" but "So Sony / ship
/ their products with crap batteries ?". The point is, no one is doubting
that Sony make and can supply decent batteries (which is the point Mr Morgan
seems to be making) but one of the fact that they seem to / ship / their
consumer camcorders with batteries that are more or less useless.

The shipped battery is OK. But considerably higher capacity ones are
available, at a price.

A small battery isn't useless. It just isn't useful for as long as a
bigger one :-)
