Default MovieMaker or similar please

I want to edit a quick video on my laptop. At home I have pinnacle studio on
the main computer but only have laptop with me so I tried editing it in
Windows Live Movie Maker. It seemed to work surprisingly well but when I try
to save it as a movie file instead of a project I get the error message "The
system cannot find the path specified". Same message no matter how I try to
save it and same if I try to upload to FB or similar.
Anyone any ideas? Or alternatively, is there a free video editing software I
could use just over the next couple of days until I get back to my main pc?
Thanks
