| All, Have you ever heard about possible firmware upgrades for Canon DV camcorders like GL2? There are couple very annoying things in this camcorder and I'm not sure if that already fixed or not. 1. This camcorder supports SDHC media cards, it's easy to find that on the Internet. But the trap is that these cards can only be used for the photos with the great fine resolution - 1.7 MPx. So you can imagine how many worthless images can be written on the 32 GB card. The whole feature is just useless. The question is - does anybody know a way to avoid a restriction and to record the video directly to the SDHC card? Comparing to a usual DV Tape which has ~15 GB, the SDHC card has 32 GB, so it's possible to record over 2 hours or video to this type of media, but my camcorder simply doesn't let me do that. If I click the button it happily reports me that it's in the Card Position. 2. The lock of the SDHC slot cover is just a simple magnet. The camcorder complaints that the media card slot is opened each time when I occasionally touch this cover. It can happen during video recording when I shoot from hands and it's very annoying. I have a very strong temptation to make a short cut to disable (override) this so-called sensor, which is actually a pair of metal contacts. Hopefully it should be overridable with the firmware as well. Does anybody else have similar issues? Just D. |
