Default Panasonic e95 remote fault

Suddenly the Remote will not work. Whever I press any key I get the
display "Remote D1/D2". The manual buttons on the E95 itself work OK.
It receives and outputs TV signals OK. So the unit is working.
Unpowering and repowering the mains supply does not fix the problem.
Pressing Enter and '1' or '2' to change the Remote codes does not
work. Does anyone know what the problem is please? It suddenly
occurred whilst it was left in standby mode to record a t.v. programme
whilst I was away over the weekend. Many thanks - Chris J Brady
