I have a Philips PVR (DVDR7260H), one of the inputs is a DV I-link (which I understand is a Firewire connector) used to connect a camcorder to the PVR. Does the PVR scan the connected device for viewable files or would the camcorder device have some form of server to make the files viewable. Geoff Lane

Hi I have recently purchased a Panasonic HDC-SD9 video camera and hope the group might help with a couple of things:- 1. The camera creates a new file for every scene. When I create a DVD with the HD Writer software there is a pause between scenes. Is there a way around this? I have tried Nero and it does the same thing. 2. I would like to get a more sophisticated and easy to use software...

Can you record consecutive digital programs on disc from different channels, as can with tape, so enabling viewing as a single stream without having to adjust the settings when progressing from one program to the next? Jean

hi I have a panasonic mini dv, and i want to record indoors, music and conversation. which will produce the best sound 12 or 16 bit? what is the difference? Also i use a UV filter outdoors, and for sake of the lens never take it off. if i am recording indoors under artificial light, will leaving it on affect the quality of the video, like reduce light etc?

A few years ago, I bought a Sony TRV460E because I was told by the Sony store chain (not actually owned or run by Sony) that it was one of only 3/4 digital cameras which would also play analog tapes and, more important convert them to digital info to input them in as computer video-editing program. The other was the TRV480En and I can't remember the other two. My TRV460E has been playing up and I...

I did a lot of research on the net about 3/4 years looking for a digital camcorder which would both play my old analog video tapes (recorded on a Samsung camcorder) and also convert them to digital info to be inputted to my laptop (in my case a Mac Powerbook using iMovie, tho it could well have been a Windows XP PC using Moviemaker). My 'research' also included asking my local Sony store (which...

I have ordered a DVD from the US of A and it is supposed to be in NTSC format. Please, folks, how can I play this either on a DVD player or on my computer? I am based in the UK and have UK equipment. -- Alasdair.

Hi, After downloading the trial of Sony Vegas Studio Platinum 9, I eventually (after some hours) found it won't import sound with avi files: http://tinyurl.com/5ppn4c On the basis that I am looking to pay for video editing software that will actually do the job without being dependant on 3rd party plugs, can anyone recommend a decent product for under £100.

Suddenly the Remote will not work. Whever I press any key I get the display "Remote D1/D2". The manual buttons on the E95 itself work OK. It receives and outputs TV signals OK. So the unit is working. Unpowering and repowering the mains supply does not fix the problem. Pressing Enter and '1' or '2' to change the Remote codes does not work. Does anyone know what the problem is please? It...

I have just bought a "Shintaro USB MP3" player, which plugs in to the car's cigarette-lighter socket. I got it working by downloading some of my MP3 files on to a flash drive, which I plugged in to the unit. The quality of the sound is faint and terrible, and I wonder if anyone has had

Can anyone advise what type of glossy paper (weight wise) is about right for the DVD covers that go inside the plastic on the outside of the DVD? e.g. 100gsm, 120gsm? Some of the DVDs I have the paper does seem pretty thin but when I have been looking for glossy paper for this I don't seem to have been able to find much below about 190gsm. Thanks,

PROS I usually buy Panasonic. But Panasonic don't make a 19 inch LCD TV. So this Sammy was the next best thing - and I'm not disappointed. The price/performance ratio is very high. Both picture and sound quality matches or exceeds what I expected from a TV this size. Superior sound can be obtained by connecting the TV's output to an external amp and speakers. Sound from the TV speakers is...

Is there any way someoen from the UK could obtain an interview the Beeb aired yesterday with the CEO of the multinational petroleum giant Repsol (Spain).? It was aired yesterday on the BBC World newscast... and it's not online on the channel's Youtube offerings... Any other on-line sources for Beeb material?. It's really important for me to obtain that..

I'm not quite sure what I'm after; I've hunted through a lot of real-time music visualization stuff, but not seen anything that fits the rather woolly ideas in my mind..... Anyway, do people remember one of the /older/ Dr Who title sequences? It showed an abstract 'fluffy' image metamorphosing into an image of the esteemed Dr's head, then away again. I'm after something sort of a cross...

Hi, I thought that I would have a go at getting my old VHS tapes onto PC then to DVD. Hooke up my VCR and everything and go virtual dub to capture the file. 1hr of capture and everything looked fine. So I decided to play what I had. The video seems to be faster with the loss of 10 mins and the audio runs at half speed, giving a robotic sound. AVI chunk view comes up saying the the file need...

Hi everyone. I've got Sony Vegas 6 Platinum on Windows XP, and I've been using MOV clips created by my digi-camera quite happily with no problems. I asked a friend for a clip which she recorded with her Mac laptop. (I don't know what exact software she used. Sorry.) The clip, audio and video, plays just fine using my copy of the QuickTime player. However, when I import the file into Vegas, it...

Hello! Why does a panoramic video (in an evening or inside a building, shot by Sony HC5E camcorder) look like the frame rate is about 10 fps? My 11-year old JVC VHS-C camcorder never had this problem. Best regards, Dima

Hi, I hope this is the right group for this question. I have 2 Samsung VP-D351 Camcorders with the same problem i.e. the cable which connects the LCD display to the PCB in the camera body has broken where it passes through the hinge assembly. Samsung are not being very helpful as regards replacement parts and I wondered if anyone else has had this problem and knows where to get the cable...

Hi I have just bought a new hard-drive digital video camera (actual an SD card camera rather than built-in disk). My main reason for wanting such a camera is so I can simply drag and drop the files on to my PC and save/view/upload them from there. I can easily transfer the files on to PC either by USB or direct from the SD card. They are in mp4 format, which open in Quicktime by default.

Please can someone advise me. I have a DMR-E95 DVD recorder with hard disk. The hard disk is nearly full of archived home movies. The disk is also starting to have problems with sound. I need to back up the contents to a multi-media server on my home network. How can I do this please? Backing up to hundreds of DVD-RAM disks is not an option - too expensive and time consuming. Thank you. Chris B.

Anybody know if there's a cheap DVD recorder capable of recording at least eight hours? It's for a video capture application where quality isn't an issue, so a cheap analogue-only dvd recorder from a supermarket would be fine. -- Dave Farrance

Hi folks. I recently transferred a bunch of Super 8 sound home movies to video, using wall projection and firewire from a Sony video camera. The final results (after many trials and experiments) seem excellent to my eye. I'm keen to copy the films onto DVDs and spread them around various family households for viewing and safe keeping. However, whenever I try to save the uncompressed AVI...

Is there any software that can perform simple edits on an mpeg file, such as top- and tailing it and removing commercial breaks, without having to re-encode the whole file. I'm sure it must be possible: 95% of the file is unchanged so you do a byte-for-byte copy, with only a few frames around the edit point needing to be re-encoded. Pinnacle Studio 10 is great for editing, but then takes...

I have an old Sony Digital-8 camcorder, and I'm planning to get a mini-DV model to replace it. I want to be able to copy my old tapes onto mini-DV. Having done a bit of research I know I should be able to do this camera-to-camera if the new camcorder has DV-in and I buy a 4 pin to 4 pin firewire cable, but there is one thing I'm not sure about: how to make the mini-DV camcorder start...

I've tried to copy a film onto a DVD+R but as soon as the transfer is finished, the recorder 'finalises' the DVD so I cannot copy any more onto the same DVD. Is there some way I can get round this problem?

I have an Alba RDVD1000 DVD recorder, which, when I record from the TV onto a DVD+R/W will not then allow me to copy from this DVD+R/W onto a different machine. It keeps showing on screen a security warning. I can copy to tape, but even trying to copy from tape onto another DVd brings the same warning message up Why and what can I do ?

Hi, Recently I was given an ALBA DVD Recorder. It had a DVD stuck inside the drawer. I tested it and sure enough the drawer would not open. Upon removing the cover, I soon saw that the DVD mechanism had exactly the same electrical connections as that in a PC. I removed the mechanism, connected it to my PC and used the My_Computer options to open the drive. I then removed the DVD and...

If you have made a home movie that you've put on DVD and want to shrink wrap it so it looks extra special like it has just been bought in the shops, does anyone know of any places that sell shrink wrap that you can diy yourself at home? E.g. about 10 years ago I used to make my own wine, and you could get plastic tops that go over the top of the bottle and the cork, then what you would do is...

My neighbour Bob last year released his fourth album entitled 'Norfolk Heroes' which is available in Jarrolds and many other stores on the North Norfolk coast. The first track is called 'Down The A149' which describes the various places on that road between Kings Lyn and Cromer.
