Default DVD Recorder Question ?

Hi,

Recently I was given an ALBA DVD Recorder. It had a DVD stuck inside the
drawer. I tested it and sure enough the drawer would not open.

Upon removing the cover, I soon saw that the DVD mechanism had exactly the
same electrical connections as that in a PC. I removed the mechanism,
connected it to my PC and used the My_Computer options to open the drive. I
then removed the DVD and replaced it into the machine. It then worked
perfectly.

The machine will only record onto DVD +R/W or DVD +R.

My question is this. If I take the elctrical connections out of the case
(This is easy because they are long enough), would I be able to connect a
DVD -/+ R/W drive to it and then record onto DVD -R as well or is there
something in the software of the machine that would stop this...?

Firmware and hardware would prevent that.
