Default Does anyone have a Sony HCR-HC96?

I've just boughtthe above to replace my old Hi8 and noticed a very
pronounced buzzing form the motor/tape mechanism.

Is this a known problem with the camera, or have I got a bad one?

TIA

It is a known problem (I have an email from Sony stating that some noise
will be recorded). Mine does the same, and so did the one in the Sony shop*
after I bought mine online. Some of the noise, but far less that you'd
think, gets recorded.

* I'll never use a real Sony shop due to their complete incompetence and
lack of product knowledge. They told me that the HC96 could not do pass-thru
(input an analog video signal and output to firewire). I elaborated my
question to make sure they understood. Useless!

Thanks, how do these issues get through the QA process?
And how do the staff get through the interview process? ;-)

Smarmy looks, the ability to bu**s**t and a complete lack of integrity.
Sounds like you've had the same experiences with Sony centres as I have.
