Default splitting .avi into several chunks automatically

Hi,

I'm looking for a free tool that can split an .avi automatically into chunks
of less than 2 GB ... in order to copy them to an external HDD in FAT.

I've searched Google and found many tools, but none of them really work for
me. They are either not free or they don't accept my standard Premiere .avi
files or they don't work automatically or they don't work at all!

Doesn't VirtualDub do this? The "output sequencail avi" (or what ever
the phrasing is) option, never having had a need to use this function
I might be wrong though.

All I can find in my version of VirtualDub (1.6.17) is manually indicating
what portion you want of a file and then save that as a new .avi. But maybe
there are newer versions of VirtualDub with an automatic option. I'll look
into it.

Thanks! Can't believe that was right under my nose. :-)

If you ever have the need to do this with a MPEG or TS file then ProjectX
will do it.
