Default Combi DVD/VHS recorders

Does anyone know if these machines, such as the Panasonic DMR-EZ47VEB-S,
can record to tape from a digital signal (it has built-in Freeview). Or
do they have an ordinary analogue aerial input for the VHS side. My
F-in-law is looking at one of these, but I can't find any answer when
googling. It would seem obvious to me you should be able to do that, but
perhaps boxes like this are truly expected to be for transitional
purposes only.

Thanks -- tim

Try http://www.panasonic.co.uk/customer-...oad-centre.asp
and inputting the model number.

Anyway, according to the manual (18MB download, don't say I never try
to be helpful...), yes it can record to *either* VHS or DVD.

Thanks - that is *very* helpful. Downloading now and I will browse it.

Yes. I have a DMR-EZ45V And very happy with it. But why record to tape use
RAM discs For versatility and Quality

One step at a time, eh? The F-in-law now has a digital telly and was
frustrated that his VCR wouldn't record off the digital signal. This way
he is future proofed as he can do what he is used to doing but will be
able to transition - if he ever wants to.

Because sometimes tape is actually a better medium, take these two
scenario, the viewer who might start watching a long programme on one
machine and then move over to another (such as living room and
bedroom) or the AV-professional/journalist who needs to move from one
machine to another, with optical disk the user will have to skip
forward from the start to the correct 'paused' position were a linier
tape will be on or very close mark. Also, magnetic tape is still the
better medium for long term archiving, but that subject has been
talked to death on this group in the past....

How was the VCR supposed to get a Digital signal. Adding a freeview box to
the AV2 input would allow it to record from a digital source

This was part of the frustration, knowing what signal is on what cable
and connecting it up properly.
