I don't understand why there are two different DVDs, and what would be the
result of using either or both in the same recorder?

A result of the usual commercial disagreements in the industry.
Remember VHS & Betamax? :-)

Whether it is important to use one or the other depends on your
drive. Modern drives mostly don't care, but earlier ones were
specified for one or other format.

Normaly - where the drive doesn't care - the best type to use is
-RW, as these are (very marginaly) more compatable, and slightly
cheaper.

Regards,
Harry.

...but, IIRC, -RW discs must be completely formatted before use
whereas +RW formats a new disc 'on the fly'; so the former need a few
minutes preparation before they can be used.

Is it possible to burn "multisession" on DWD-RW also?
