Hi,
I've been trying to download the driver and software files for this VP-
D70 camcorder from the Samsung Gobal Download site. Every time I try,
the zip files are corrupted. I emailed support who said they'd
escalate the query but nothing came of it yet. I've tried getting
these files from Samsung by various web routes but always end up at
the same place, with the same effect. Can anyone suggest an
alternative source for these files, or offer a solution?

Er - this is a MiniDV cam - why do you need any drivers?

OK - your choice. However - those drivers will not be used for
normal DV capture. One of the nice features of Firewire/MiniDV is
that, unlike USB, no specific drivers are needed - the standard ones
work for all cams.

Yeah :-) But it's a fair question. What do the drivers drive? What
isn't the camera doing that these drivers would enable?

Most still cameras automatically show up as an external drive in My
Computer (I know - a few need a driver loaded.) You open the folder,
drag the picture files where you want them and use the perfectly good
Windows utilities to organise them. But the manufacture still offers
a CD with some Toytown photo-organising program that hides that
camera's pictures away from the main system. Maybe you're in danger
of downloading something just as useless.

Yes, you're right, I didn't want to come over as unappreciative. What
happens is that sometimes my kids are given stuff like camcorders for
presents or for special educational projects.
Later, these "Yesterday" items get discarded and are returned home,
usually minus just about everything that's not glued or bolted on to
the mother object. This is where I get the chance to refurbish and
have a new toy for myself. Sometimes, when I'm busy on several
projects I can become a little robotic in the refurbishment process.
So, I wasn't giving the need for drivers enough consideration. Thanks
for putting me right.
