Default DVD Formats

With many modern DVD recorder/players being quite compatible I am
wondering as to the best format to use for DVD recording.

What are the advantages or otherwise of DVD+/+RW over DVD-/-RW

Good question. All old formats should be supported now, but newest ones -
not neccesarily. I also noticed that the latest DVD video disks can't be
recognized by the old version of DVD Shrink. It barks something about wrong
format. Also the old version of the MS Media Player can't play them, the
upgraded version knows all these new formats. Surprise... First time I
noticed a few months ago.

Correct me somebody if I'm wrong, I've never seen dual layer DVD-, only +. I
guess it's a politics in most cases. Several companies making - are trying
to show that they are better than other companies making +. That's more
historical than anything else.

That's interesting, have you upgraded DVD Shrink and is the later one OK.

DL-R available. I have Verbatim. There may be others.

I'm currently having version 3.2.0.15 installed. Google doesn't show me
anything newer:

I'm not sure that a newer version is available.

The WMP version is 11, that's what I'm using now. Version 10 was not able to
play some newest video disks.

Here is the info:

http://www.videohelp.com/tools?tool=DVD_Shrink

It's not updated sonce 2004. Anyway I don't care now because it was very
critical for me only when I wanted to watch movies and didn't have any good
+/- DVD drive on my laptop. I found a good way of using the external DVD R/W
+/- drive in the USB box and this combination works just great for any
movies. I had to cache the disk images on the hard drive before I found this
solution to watch and then delete. Also it saves the disk drive resources
because it takes just a few minutes to cache the image comparing to 2 hours
of watching it.
