| Yesterday I bought a used Sony DCR-TV245E. Question 1 - Page 79 of the manual says In the wide mode: The Steadyshot does not work. If you set the wide mode described below in the menu settings when the Steadyshot is working, the indicator flashes and the Steadyshot does not function 16:9 WIDE to ON However in the camera menu setup I can set 16:9 WIDE to on, AND I can set Steadyshot to ON. Why would the menu allow this to be set if it does not work? Question 2 - I connect the s-video lead to my Sony TV and it plays back but when I connect the audio lead (tried two) to the TV there is a loud buzzing unless I withdraw the plug until its almost out. Does this camera require a more special av lead? Beemer |

So that you don't need to remember to turn SS on when you go back to 4:3 mode. Question 2 - I connect the s-video lead to my Sony TV and it plays back but when I connect the audio lead (tried two) to the TV there is a loud buzzing unless I withdraw the plug until its almost out. Does this camera require a more special av lead? Sounds like the audio connector on the TV is f*ck*d. Are you sure the plug is right for the TV (e.g. 2½mm stereo plug into 2½mm stereo socket)? |

At the TV end of the cable there are two RCA phono and at the camera end there is the 3.5mm "stereo plug. I think the problem is that this is a stereo cable and not as the manual shows a video/stereo cable with three RCA phono plugs. Beemer |

The reason you're getting humming is due to the audio channels not aligning from your standard stereo lead into the AV socket. To align properly you'll need to get the proper AV lead (red white and yellow phonos) even if you don't intend on using the Video (yellow) one in favour of S-vid. Doc |

That would be the reason, then. ;o) You're listening to the video signal! You need something like this: http://cpc.farnell.com/jsp/endecaSea...sp?SKU=AV06942 and just connect S video instead of the yellow composite. |

With both of my Sony camcorders they came with a 4-pole 3.5mm plug, giving common earth, video, L-Audio and R-Audio. The other end has three RCA phono plugs. I bought a similar cable from Maplin (to allow me to leave a cable connected to the back of the TV) so I could simply plug from the front of the TV. -- Tony Morgan |

I put the code you quoted and they aren't there. Probably because CPC sell them for 72p inc VAT. Even with the extortionate postage, it's still cheaper than Maplin! |
