| In message , G Hardy writes Snipped... I did look at Maplin but could only find 4 pole jack plugs for making up your own cable. I put the code you quoted and they aren't there. Probably because CPC sell them for 72p inc VAT. Even with the extortionate postage, it's still cheaper than Maplin! If you can get them elsewhere than fine. Maplin have fairly recently redesigned their website without a proper search. I found the items by using the catalogue - via the contents at the front then turning pages. If you're in a hurry you could ring your local Maplins to see if they have them in stock (giving the part number), and picking them up if they have one. -- Tony Morgan |

Today I visited Currys to be told that (a) You MUST use a Sony brand cable as it has unique spacing on the 3.5mm plug and we can supply it from our parts company that will be £26.99 thank you. So my thanks also to Gareth for identifying the product from CPC. Beemer |

Today I visited Currys to be told that (a) You MUST use a Sony brand cable as it has unique spacing on the 3.5mm plug and we can supply it from our parts company that will be £26.99 thank you. Talking about Currys, my friend went to Currys six months ago and paid very near £3000 for a very large plasma TV. Then they charged him £76 on top for a "special SCART cable that's needed if you want to get HD". I'd known he was looking at large-screen plasmas, and suggested that he looked around Currys and Comets, then get the make/model number of the one he chose, then go onto the Internet to see if he could get one cheaper. Unfortunately my friend is not one to take any advice from anyone. In fact the best strategy is to tell him not to do something and then he'll likely do it :-) Anyway, I didn't hear any more about it until he rang me to ask me to go round and see his new TV that he'd bought from Currys. He seemed prouder about paying £2990 for it than the actual TV itself. Needless to say, I couldn't resist it - I took the make/model number and when I went home did the usual search and found that he could have got the TV for £600 less than he paid and printed out the details. I didn't gloat over it - but the next time I went round to see him as I was leaving I pulled out the print-out saying "you might like to have a look at this". I didn't raise the matter again and he's never mentioned it. But the curious thing is - now I'm a newbie about TVs and HD - his TV has no HD logo on it, nor does it have either DVI or HDMI sockets on the back. I've *read* a little about HD TV and all the articles I've seen mention that to be an HD TV it must have both the IEC 'HD' logo on it, and have either a DVI or HDMI connector on the back. Perhaps someone can confirm or deny this? -- Tony Morgan |

At the TV end of the cable there are two RCA phono | and at the camera end there is the 3.5mm "stereo plug. Perhaps someone can confirm or deny this? Part of the whole branding exercise on these TVs is to show that they can accept HD input. Whether or not they can actually display them or not is another matter. Did it have component input sockets? I'd be interested to see what make and model it is to see what the manufacturers web site has to day about it. Do you still have the information to hand? Doc |
