| My JVC has a problem that I have been told by a local dealer is a faulty CCT. Does this sou= nd correct? Essentially the lens is up the spout. The picture I get through the viewer= is a mass of coloured lines rather than a normal picture. When on play mode the picture= , previously recorded, is fine. Is this part diagnosis correct? Can I fix it myself, w= here can I get a part from? I have been quoted a repair cost of =C2=A3150 +. I live near Lo= ndon in the UK. Any responses will be appreciated |

Any responses will be appreciated Sounds like your camera does indeed have a faulty CCD (Charge-Coupled Device). This is the part of the camera that converts light energy into an electrical signal, essentially turning the image it sees through the lens into a stream of electrical information which is then processed and recorded onto tape. If the CCD is indeed the problem (usually indicated by the fact the 'mass of coloured lines' are distinctly horizontal or vertical), the lens will probably not be faulty. Obviously the CCD is one of the most critical components of a camera, and when it goes wrong, it _really_ goes wrong! Generally speaking most CCD failures are caused by loose connections to the chip - almost invariably brought on by a shock to the camera (e.g. dropping it, banging it against a wall). Unfortunately, save replacing the chip itself, there's not much that can be done to redeem a b*ggered CCD. There are a few MiniDV cameras out there sub-£200 which you may find more economical in the long run... Ed Fielden -- www.fielden.tv |
