I am quite new to video editing and camcorders. I have recently purchased a Sony DCR HC35 miniDV camcorder and have toyed around with the pre-installed roxio MYDVD LE software as well as Nero Ultra edition but would like to invest in a more dedicated package and hope to embark on a new hobby. I am interested in Burning and DVD Creation, as well as possibly sharing video clips with family via e-mail and over the internet. I have been reveiwing some software online and Abode Premier Elements 3 sounds pretty good. I have also looked at Pinnacle Studio 10 Plus and Ulead Video Studio 10 Plus. Any guidance and advice around these programs would be gratefuly received. Many Thanks - Melianbriggs. Reply » I'd go for Premiere Elements. Bundled with Photoshop Elements at PC World. Have you tried Windows Movie Maker 2. Free from Microsoft. It's a good intro and brilliant for creating rolling credits Margaret Hi Margaret Hope you don't mind me hijacking this thread. We had our first video camera for the arrival of our first grandchild in November 2005 and I am still trying to sort out software that will allow me to download and edit the footage and then burn to DVD to play on any DVD player. Hoping to send to relatives in Australia. I was very disappointed that there appeared to be no software with the camera as it was not cheap!! You mention Windows Movie Maker and that was the first thing I downloaded with but it wouldn't play on our DVD player only on the PC which is why I thought I obviously needed dedicated software to do this. I believe you have to have 'authoring' software is this correct, I really would like to compile a DVD of the moments we have captured so far and feel we would take far more video if I could do this. Many people have issues with their home burnt DVD, even when using expensive authoring programs, they find that the DVD's do play on cheap players but NOT their expencive 'branded' models! |

Thank you for your reply. I am just trying to find some software to buy which would let me capture from the video camera, then edit it and burn on to a DVD. I want something that is simple to understand and once I know what I am doing (hopefully) I can then move on to software that is all 'singing and dancing'. Does anyone have any recommendations please. Lynn |

Your problem is similar to that of another poster in the thread "software suggestions?", started today in this group, I suspect that your short term solution may be the same. BTW, what is your camcorder model? |

Canon MV850i The three leading packages for the home and family users are Pinnacles studio 10 plus, I have used 7,8 & 9 without problems but a lot of users have stability problems with it. Ulead Movie studio 10,just as easy to find your way around but not as good as pinnacle. Sony Vegas movie studio, This is a little more advanced in its capabilities but does not look as pretty and would need a little time putting into it to get a grip of the interface. Windows movie maker is more tied in to playing WMV on the computer rather then creating DVD's.It only makes wmv and DV/avi, all the rest have a multitude of formats. The Mpeg 2 codec needed to make a DVD does not come free so is not in movie maker but if saved as DV/avi something like Nero or sonic that does have the mpeg 2 codec can then burn to DVD, as fully compatible |

Not sure what you mean by "not as pretty", but Vegas is the only application out of that three that I'd take seriously. |
