Gentlemen, Who knows how can we get the file names showing the date and time of the footage using Vegas Studio? The pretty "simple" Movie Maker is able to extract this info from the tapes easily and it shows this info when imports the files that made itself. Is that possible in Vegas Studio at all? I know that there are some settings in Vegas... Thanks, Just D.

Sorry, one correction - the idea was to make the file names generated from the date/time, not like a stupid sequence of the words and numbers assigned by Vegas(Studio). I like the video clips to be called using the absolute datetime, it's very convenient to order them keeping in mind 20-30 different tapes and thousands of files... So I'm not sure that this is a very good idea to rename all files manually getting the date and time from the Vegas Project Media folder in the next column. I'm wondering if any software is able to create the file names like I described above... Or maybe some plug-in or a separate simple software able to get this time stamp from the file and rename the file automatically... I wish I knew how to extract this info, it would be very easy to write this tool just in a few minutes... Just D. I can't get on with CassetteDV at the moment, but I will persevere. I would like to look at other programs as well. Thanks -- Mike Gasson (from the Isle of Purbeck)

Btw, Paul is a very nice guy and we already sent a few messages to each other. His latest DVDate was improved and published a few hours ago. Also I sent Paul a couple more ideas and if he could implement them it would be very good for all his users. Particularly I'm not sure if it's possible to call the codec using by Vegas or Vegas Studio form his applications. The codec is excellent, I guess it's the very best or one of the best on the market, it can produce video with a very high quality and if Paul could use this codec from his apps... Dreams... I realize that probably the interface of this codec is not standard to be usable outside Vegas at all. At least it maybe not published. Anyway I'm very impressed with this very professionally made software - and it's freeware! Paul knows about this newsgroup, I sent him this info a few days ago, but I'm not sure if he has a chance to get here. This NG needs the guys like him. Mike, maybe you could talk to him in French. It would be more convenient for both of you. I got a feeling that you should know the French. ![]() Just D. "Mike Gasson" http://paul.glagla.free.fr/dvdate_en.htm Thanks for the link. What you need is for his software to made available as an alternative capture "device" from Vegas, producing files named in the format you want.

I hear what you are saying and can't/won't argue with that. One of the problems I have is that CassetteDV says my cassettes are NTSC, but as I'm in the UK I reckon they are PAL. If they are being read as NTSC then I can't be sure that I can use the data later. Also, when I connect my camera (Panasonic NV-DS1) and switch it to VCR it keeps switching back into record mode. it does settle eventually. I don't know if that is the camera or the program, hence my wish to try another program. Mike, maybe you could talk to him in French. It would be more convenient for both of you.
