Default Writing DVD's from camcorder

.... having got my camcorder (and old sony camcorder) recordings onto my
pc and edited them I now want to view them on my dvd player connected to
my TV. The player is a warfdale dvd 750.

If I write a cd (using Nero 6) I can view them on the dvd player but if
i write a dvd (dvd+r) then warfdale does not recognise the dvd.

so, what do I need to do (answers on a postcard to ...)?

Should I be using dvd-r or any other format?

Am I using Nero6 in the wrong way or do I need another program?

I assume that if I write the dvd in the correct format etc. I can view
4.7Gb of videos?

Thanks, Brian

Your Wharfdale 750 will play CDR, CDRW, DVD-R, DVD+R, VCD, SVCD and MP3.

It will not play DVD-RW, nor DVD-RW, nor DivX, nor XviD, nor JPG.

To write correctly formatted DVD-R (or DVD+R) you must either use Nero
Vision, or use a video editor that provides video DVD burning.

Some versions/variants of Nero include Nero Vision, and some do not.

Thanks again Tony. Views from other groups I posted on suggest that
reading own dvd's on this machine is iffy at best. Time to upgrade I

More likely you need to down-grade, many of the more expensive DVD
players won't play all disc types that the sub 30 quid cheapo player
from the supermarket will...

Interestingly, often the cheapest DVD players give the widest support
for the many video/audio media/formats. Those sold at Asda seem to fall
into this category. It's also keeping an eye open at Aldi - especially
for DVD recorders.

To check on any particular make/model go he
http://www.videohelp.com/dvdplayers

Well worth a visit before you buy. There's also information there on DVD
and HD recorders.

Possibly newness is the issue, not cheapness. It can be sad to watch
someone realise that his expensive player, bought a few years ago, is
rendered obsolete by a £20 box from Asda.

Also, it's possible that not all the licences that might be required to
decode all these formats have been fully paid for.

I'm lead to believe that the licences required for the capabilities of a
modern DVD player would probably cost in the region of USD20 per unit.

That can't be correct, if so British supermarkets are selling units
at less then the cost of the CODEC licence! Surely most CODEC
developers make their CODEC's available for free to allow play-back
but charge for the encoding version?
