Any suggestions for a colour bullet camera that will work with my MiniDV
camcorder? The camcorder is a PAL Panasonic NV-GS5 and has, I believe, a
composite video input. I'm looking for something that will be suitable for
making in-car driving videos.

What's the deal with the TV lines that these things have? I see 350, 380,
and 420 line versions, but I don't know how that relates to the 576 pixel
height of MiniDV. The eventual distribution media would be internet,
resolutions ranging from full MiniDV resolution, possibly cropped to 16:9,
and general size reduction for the likes of YouTube and Google Video.

The only bullet cam I've looked at was in Maplin today - they have a colour
one, but it has an aerial-type 75 ohm connection rather than the phono
connector I half-expected (and it said 350 line in the spec). Price was 80
quid. Any good?

Can any of these be fitted with lens converters? I'd like a pretty wide
field of view (comparable to the Panasonic with a x0.3 converter if
possible - about 12mm focal length on 35mm).

Cheers,

I did a lot of research into this previously and basically came up with
the range from RF Concepts
http://www.rfconcepts.co.uk/cameras.htm

I've not used them yet, but I've heard very good things about them. They
have different models for sports, underwater etc.

I found other places, but they were based in the US, and price wise, RFC
were about there.

I haven't bought one because I've moved to doing widescreen productions
and couldn't face the drop in quality from a 4:3 bullet cam. Just waiting
for widescreen versions to become available.

The higher the number of lines the better the camera. This relates to
vertical lines of resolution, nothing to do with the horizontal lines for
PAL or the pixel height of the CCD.

The ones from RFConcepts have interchangeable lenses.

snip

Yup, I've placed several orders with them for doing in-car work. Nothing but
praise, from me. YMMV.

Cheers,
Gareth
