Hi, I have just bought a JVC GR-D340E/EK digital video camera and have
a couple of questions. I am new to this technology...

How is the data stored on tape, as a digital file or as analog video
(like old video camers)?

If I use the DV connector to firewire on my PC an I getting the stored
digital recording off tape, if not what?

If I use the S-video connector (or composite video connector) does
this come off tape as video or does the camera create the video
signals on the fly?

I am looking for the best way to take recordings off the tap into my
PC with the highest quality.

Have a read through:
http://www.camcord.info/basics/

Are 'we' not all being a little petty here. As far as I am concerned
Tony's site answered all my questions and more, and that is all I care
about. This silly squabble is just wasted noise on the internet.

I am now much better educated with respect to digital video and how to
turn my simple videoing of my son's wedding into something presentable,
thanks to Tony.

.... so why don't you lot just bugger off :-)

Nah. We live here. Tony enjoys being pompous at times. I enjoy
teasing him. Live with it.

There are two grammatical errors and two punctuation errors in the
opening page. The first sentence is clumsy, but not exactly
incorrect. Spelling seems OK though :-)

The Tuning page is rather out-of-date. And, if we're talking about
the days when there were only 16 IRQ slots ( numbered 0-15, not 15
slots numbered 1-15) we must remember the top PCI slot often shared a
hardwired IRQ with the AGP slot. NOT a clever place to put your
Firewire card! And did we really mean "...power supply issues on
your computer's PCI bus."? Oh yes, and the antediluvian
misapprehension about virtual memory. Spelling's OK as far as I
can see.

Skimmed through the rest. Can't see any spelling mistakes.

Thanks Laurence. That's the first constructive post I've seen from you
for quite a while.

You haven't corrected it yet though :-) May I have an editor credit?

Now, let me guess. A wooden video? Nah. Something to do with
Halloween? :-)

Come on, Tony! You STILL haven't corrected it! People of our
generation surely realise how illiterate presentation devalues
content? This is your flagship web page, not a trivial misprint in
an email :-)

I'd suggest you have a read through:

http://library.thinkquest.org/5139/

Why? Because the OP's spellchecker didn't catch the "tap" misspelling of
"tape"?

Big deal.

No, because Tony "im perfect and everything i say is correct "

I'd suggest that you have a word with your school-teacher since he/she
hasn't instilled in you the very basic reading skills.

Ask him to help you read (and understand) what I say on
http://www.camcord.info/

"I am no expert - just an enthusiastic amateur."

If you interpret that as saying "I'm perfect and everything I say is
correct" then you are a demonstrable dumbo.

I also go on to say "If you would like to contribute an article to this
site it would be welcome " but obviously, being such a dumbo, you will
never have a contribution to make - either to my website or to this
newsgroup.

Now there's a good boy - go and troll somewhere else. All you're doing
here is making an arsehole of yourself.

Morgans
websites full of mistakes!

Care to treat us all to your contribution(s) then?

I'd also be interested (since you think you're so smart) in what
website(s) you have spent any time in creating - No? I though not.
You're just a sad spotty-faced schoolboy troll.

Looks to me like your site is going to be very helpful to the likes of
the OP who need some basic questions answered. You might perhaps mention
that all Macs come with Firewire built in, and, with the supplied iMovie
and iDVD, you can create straightforward movies very easily. I can't
judge about the PC aspects as I don't use them.

You make a very good point. Anytime I read a magazine or website with
obvious grammatical and spelling errors, I assume that the author is some
careless and probably ignorant individual and suspect that their information
is equally shoddy.
