| "Tony Morgan" wrote in message ... In message , John Russell writes DVD+OR DL works in four of them. Needless to say, I use it for my own stuff and archiving data - not delivery to customers. So editing longer videos to multiple single layer disks is the safest option, from a compatibility standpoint? I was thinking of getting a dvd player which states recordable dual layer compatible, or more likely a standalone DVD recorder as a safer bet. There is little point if I still have to produce a multiple disk version whenever I want to send or take a video somewhere else! There's also the issue of cost. My DVD-R/DVD+R blanks work out at 12p each (I use the printable kind). It's hard to find DLs for less than £1 each. -- Tony Morgan Sorry for picking up this thread so late, but Dual-Layer prices are coming down at present. This for example: http://ukdvdr.co.uk/shop/Datawrite-FF-Printable-**Dual-Layer**8x-DVD+R-25-tub-pr-19158.html still about 6.3 times the price Tony quotes for his single layer and still with the compatibility issues. I have used ukdvdr for DVD cases as well as dual-layer FF printables where a project is too big to fit a single-layer DVD. but that is for my own use on a Panasonic standalone DVD player which takes them without problems. I puchased a tub of ten RiDisc and have only used a couple out of them so far, but when I bought about six months ago the unit price was about £1.40 as I recall. I suspect that prices will continue to fall with the advent of greater capacity discs than DVD-R9 provides, to cater for HD-TV, and producers trying to recoup their investment in DVD-R9 production lines. There's the problem. The easiest way to compare DVDR prices is price per gigabyte, and each reader will have their own threshold where the extra for dual layer is worth the added capacity and convenience. However, until the compatibility issues are sorted, that threshold is moot. Personally, I'd rather give a two-disc boxset than a DL DVDR. Customers think they are getting more value that way )Mike Hardy Hehe - the Hardys are coming... |
